  1. one more month until Carleton usually releases acceptances for their 2 year program! hanging in there
  2. yeah mine says in progress too.
  3. I applied last year and got waitlisted, 3.84GPA, behaviour science bachelors degree, decent amount of relevant experience, etc.. in my opinion it's all about the cohort that they want and experience/personal statement, for example taking x amount of people who have worked clinically and x amount of people who haven't.. from what I hear they REALLY value talking about lived experience (every person I spoke to who has successfully been accepted to the program did this) this year my application is stronger as I wrote a thesis, completed more volunteer work and talked about my mental health experience. don't get hung up on GPA, it's UofT so it is extremely competitive but at the same time there is more to the application that matters (i.e. experience). It is a really nerve wracking process, the waiting game absolutely sucks.. I waited from december to april last year just to hear that I was waitlisted then april-september when I didn't get a spot so I feel you.
  4. I feel you.. I just focused on the 166 word count for each question, which was tricky because I feel like I missed out on so much detail. I got someone to review it and just made sure I was answering the question properly and getting to the point right away.
  5. I applied for UBCO, Carleton, and UofT all for the 2 year. For UofT I know other folks said that they were waiting for an email for a join ID or something but tbh I don't know if they are doing this? I am a different situation bc I have one from last year but now since they use the different platform you don't really need that to login I think to view the application it's all on that new portal.. honestly I am confused as well!
  6. totally resonate with this, which schools did you apply to?
  7. I think based on last years forum, most schools don't release acceptances until at least mid feb.
  8. no interviews thankfully, I applied last year and was waitlisted.
  9. it's barely Jan and the waiting game is so hard lol hopefully Carleton sends out acceptances in mid-late feb? how is everyone feeling..
  10. fair enough. You sound like you are my type of person! yes to trauma informed private practice. Would love to do EMDR/ego-focused/parts work modalities. Also DBT!!
  11. ugh right.. so annoying that the references were to complete after we submitted.. makes it weird with the timing. I did not like the 6 questions with such a small word limit, pleasure to virtually 'meet' though I think for the references they will just be asked the same questions that we 'ranked' ourselves on in the application process then they compare what we said to what they said? just a guess. I want to work with adolescents with trauma in the mental health setting, hopefully with doing private practice one day.. how about you?
  12. hey- i'm applying to UBCO as well. It doesn't matter where you do your schooling you can register in ontario. You just wouldn't be able to practice as a SW in another province if it is different from the one that you register in. Has nothing to do with where you do your schooling though.
  13. totally resonate with that- it feels so long but goes by pretty fast.. such a relief once it's over.. last time I waited from december to april 4th which SUCKED. I'm here with you.
  14. yes- I think my last reference submitted nov 22. I was surprised too, I think they will still do acceptances in feb regardless. Not sure if it is a 'first application in first looked at' type of thing
  15. things are moving pretty fast for some schools (I can say that as a previous UofT applicant getting waitlisted in April lol) my application for the 2 year MSW program at Carleton has already updated to 'recommended for assessment' I completed my application mid to late November so I think this might be why. Seems like acceptances usually go out feb 17th at the earliest. How is everyone else feeling?
  16. Anyone applying for the 2 year foundational program at UBC Okanagan know if we actually have to cite for the personal statement that says 'based on academic literature what makes the above social issue of importance'? It is unclear whether they are looking for actual citations or not and I feel like if I email them they will just say something like 'what does the question say' lol
  17. use novo resume its a great website and worth to pay for the monthly fee just for the perks.. also I believe the Uoft fees and some other deadlines such as transcripts etc is today (nov 30 2021) so you can try
  18. honestly! i'm not sure why.. fingers crossed that less people are applying?
  19. amazing I just submitted my application today, a bit of a relief I must say since I have 2 more applications to complete.
  20. hey- any folks applying to UBC Okanagan and/or Carleton for the 2 year MSW?
  21. hey you seem like you have a really strong application I would suggest getting multiple perspectives on your statement, sometimes it helps having other people assist with making sure you are answering the questions without rambling at least that's what helped me previously..
  22. I feel good about my hours- even my FT server job at a cafe counts as social work experience and this experience shouldn't' be discounted. .ABA experience has helped my hours quite a bit as I have done many placements in my degree as well as worked as an instructor therapist for 8 months.. I now volunteer with folks with eating disorders on an online chat and have co facilitated some support groups for teens for sure takes time to get those hours i've been volunteering in the SW world so to speak for 7 months or so now. As for my personal statement I feel good about this too since I can take a bit of what I had written for UofT, I have more experience now and I am also speaking about my lived experience with mental health/working with people with disabilities. Honestly the hardest part is just keeping up with the limited word count they give us haha
  23. I think a lot of places value lived experience in SW as well as volunteering.. volunteering for a crisis line could be a good start as I know finding employment can be difficult and a longer process. I would start volunteering in any place you can to get those hours
  24. I feel you SO hard on this- I got waitlisted and didn't hear back either in time for UofT.. but honestly i'd highly suggest reapplying- some people give up and never reapply but I think they're looking for people who reapply and say what changed. I think UofT is so competitive because it's very clinical, has some of the best places and is globally ranked so highly. For less competitive options i'd probably look into western (kings), & Carelton.
  25. Hi Folks! I applied to UofT and got waitlisted in April 2021 and did not get a spot unfortunately, this was my first time applying to an MSW program so I am pretty proud of myself for going through the process.. I also applied to Yorkville for the MACP program and got accepted but after much consideration/research I want to stick with an MSW (also who wants to pay $36k for an online program LOL). I am going in with more experience volunteering this year as well as working as a server at a cafe in Toronto (been in school for so long and I need a break). I plan to reapply to UofT then apply to Carelton, and UBC Okanagan all for the 2 year MSW programs. I've already gotten started on my personal statements/forming a base for what I want to submit. My background is in applied behaviour analysis (four years honours degree) I have about a 90 average and have experience working with folks with autism, and volunteering through a couple organizations to support folks with eating disorders. Looking forward to meeting others through this process
