Go on a wee holiday and come back to rejections from Columbia, Notre Dame, USC and Vanderbilt. Quite a haul for only three days!
-
I've not heard anything via email and no update on the website. From the results page it looks like they can be rather slow to inform people if they're waitlisted or rejected.. Hopefully you hear some good news.
-
How many do you have left to hear from? Hopefully you hear some good news, but if not there are lots of people who have come back and been successful second time round. If it's really what you want to do then hopefully you'll get there.
-
I didn't say otherwise. Merely that the slice of bitter graduate students you find on PSR doesn't equate such positions with success!

This is a good point. After battling through a PhD I do think many find it utterly devastating if they can't get the kind of job they imagined. It's quite natural really.. years of training and socialization for a career you might not make it into. FakeCoach is right that there's a systematic overproduction of PhDs and the academic job market just can't take them all. It's grim, but it's the truth. The question is where you draw the line. Many of the denizens of PSR would say being outside the 'Top 5' dooms you to a life of failure. That's true if your idea of failure is working anywhere that's not H-Y-P-S/acronym of choice. I miss the real coach

A new week and silence from Notre Dame.. I'm genuinely pretty happy with TAMU though. Will feel better when the financial aid details come through, but trying not to fret since it's guaranteed. Fingers crossed for those of you still waiting for one good acceptance
-
You've only got to look at PSR to see that the future is not necessarily rosy.
-
I definitely wouldn't look to the UK for Masters funding.. we're generally rubbish. As others have said it sounds like you have a good background. If you can articulate your research ideas/thoughts/questions etc. clearly within your area of interest then you should have a chance.
-
It looks as if they accept/waitlist and then inform everybody else relatively promptly (a couple of days later.. judging by the results page). So I guess we'll find out soon enough...
-
Finally! Well done

Anyone else sitting there doing a ridiculous amount of googling re: College Station and TAMU? I've still got lots of schools to hear from, but TAMU was always one of my top choices.. You'll probably be ok... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=Northgate+college+station&es_sm=122&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=Jq3TVPfxBqfU7Aa9zYGICg&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=667

and I know of schools that pay ~13k I deliberately avoided a couple of schools that would have been a good fit but seem to generally offer low funding. Off the top of my head I think Texas - Austin was one. Probably not such an issue for Americans though, I'll have to go home sometime and internationals aren't eligible for as many scholarships and grants...

I think I received the first rejection on the 7th of January and had to wait almost a month before hearing any good news. It gets pretty dispiriting checking this place every minute of the day as other people appear to receive good news. Fingers crossed that you both hear something positive soon.

Good luck to all you NYU hopefuls
-
Thanks everyone! Phew. Official email from TAMU DGS and visiting weekend 27-29 March. Anyone else on here apply to A&M?
-
I'm now into the 'what if they accidentally sent the email to everyone' phase
-
First PhD acceptance! Email from Texas A&M Prof. to IR admits (11 admits). Can say I honestly wouldn't have been accepted without the help of many people on this forum and the advice passed down over the years. Thanks GradCafe
-
I am not enjoying Monday.
-
Congrats! First acceptance! Was it via the admission status check thingermebobber or email?
-
Good luck you two... and well all of us.. The gradcafe stops me feeling like this..
-
Yup. Widely reported to be off to ASU on the-site-that-must-not-be-named (poliscirumors).
-
Eugh. That feeling when an acceptance pops up for a school you've applied to and your inbox is empty... (Penn State.) Well done to whoever it may be
-
I think it's absolutely fine. They might not be able to provide you with much information (they might have sifted through hundreds of applications.. or not been on the committee), but it's worth a shot. If they happened to be annoyed by this then I'm not sure they'd make a great person to work with..
-
500 applications.. roughly 300 for IR (based on previous years) and ~2 scholarships...
-
Which Texas are we on about? From what I heard from a faculty member A&M isn't done yet. I know nothing about Austin though
