Columbia seemed to imply it was the 17th or bust.. but that may have actually been helpful as forwarding the email got my referee going . In contrast others seem quite relaxed. EDIT: Emory's Graduate Coordinator says that the committee has started reviewing applications.

Should I retake Trig for a PhD in Political Science?
AuldReekie replied to 2016PhDHopeful's topic in Political Science Forum
I was always relatively competent, but utterly bored by maths in school. Six years later I realise what it can be used for in Political Science and suddenly I like it -
A fair number of places I'm applying explicitly said no interfolio. As you mentioned it's probably so that that they can fill in questionnaires..
-
Aye. That's my job tomorrow..
-
We're in the same boat.. Hopefully it's all ok. I imagine most places don't go near reviewing the applications until the new year, but then again I don't want to give any reason to have an application chucked out early on account of a late reference
-
Yeah. it's unfortunate that there's no means to make things easier for them. Interfolio would make things much smoother, but very few schools accept it. Re:OSU. I assumed that this (below) included letters of recommendation?
-
I'm having trouble with one of my referees too and I'll be sure to email the Grad Secretary/coordinators now. Thanks!

Inevitable pre-deadline referee drama and mix up over deadlines . Nice and supportive person, but busy forgetful! -- Anyone else here applying to Texas A&M?
-
Aye.. it's quite a tedious process. I'm planning a bit of an ambitious cycle trip through the summer and will need to actually start training in the New Year. I don't really want to think about alternatives until after all my applications are in..

I'm sure lots of people will appear in January and when decisions start being made. Sent off a paper application today..

UK Political Theory PhD 2014-15 cycle
AuldReekie replied to Kalmar's topic in Political Science Forum
Good luck! How is the research proposal? I'm just thinking about starting properly on mine. IR Theory, so not Pol Theory.. but close enough -
Switching fields from english to political science

I'm still a bit unclear on what you actually want to do. Academia or an NGO? There's no point doing a PhD for most NGO work and there's little use in acquiring an MIA for academia... -
I take back what I said about applyTexas...

Credentials sufficient enough?-Feedback on Quality
AuldReekie replied to bpagvar21's topic in Political Science Forum
Here is a quote from the University of Washington's Political Science Dept. Similarly the average GPA for entrants to Notre Dame is 3.6 (http://graduateschool.nd.edu/departments-and-programs/ph-d-programs/political-science/admissions-history/). Unfortunately you might find it difficult. I'm not expert and just an applicant like you. However, you're applying to some really competitive places.. If you do strike out I would consider looking at ways to strengthen your application. Perhaps a terminal MA? -
That's a shame. with 600+ applicants who knows what they'll do! Send a quick email or call? Austin or A&M? I've not found ApplyTexas to be too bad.. but then again I've not finished it yet.
-
Thanks! Seems ok from my end and 2/3 have managed so far. Although the website is a bit of a muddle and a tad confusing in comparison to the ApplyWeb version that many others places (and OSU) use.

I wouldn't attend anywhere in the UK over where I'm applying in the US, so perhaps that answers my question for me.. Funding is truly horrendous. Edinburgh has an average of one ESRC Politics & IR PhD scholarship per year..
-
5/15 here. Also wondering if I want to apply for UK PhD scholarships after this. US PhDs think their market is bad, but the UK looks even worse...

What do deadlines *actually* mean [help quick!]
AuldReekie replied to mattecon's topic in Political Science Forum
I would assume midnight unless they specifically state earlier. Good luck. -
Most places don't want you to do this and many explicitly say not to go making up a GPA for yourself.
-
The best way for you to find out is to go to the department's faculty pages and open up a lot of tabs
-
Good luck
