  1. ah yes good point.. I was referring to a teaching position in a K-12 school for someone coming out of Grad School with a masters..
  2. I think maybe what i am trying to ask is would it be more significant to an employer if you're applying (for a teaching position) with an ivy league degree rather than one from Vanderbilt although Vanderbilt is ranked higher? This question could really be applied to any field.
  3. Hello everyone! i just read the US news top graduate school for education.. TOP 5.. 1. Vanderbilt- Peabody 2. Harvard 2. UT- Austin 4. Stanford 4. Teachers College, Columbia U. All of these schools are obv. great for education but is US news really a reliable source for this sort of ranking? I may be a little bias because I am going to TC but I don't know how UT-Austin jumped from tenth to tie with Harvard. And I know that Vanderbilt is a great school and has a great ED. program but does anyone feel that when being interviewed for a job the employer will think higher of you if say you're applying with a degree from Harvard or Columbia-TC even though Vanderbilt has a better program? (according to US news) so yeah i was just wondering what peoples opinions on these rankings were...
  4. thanks and congrats to you as well! sent you a PM
  5. No info in regards to funding... i have been accepted to NYU as well... TC was my first choice so im def. going ha
  6. hey thanks! i got my acceptance on March 1. But the letter was marked feb 27. good luck! and just because I have noticed alot of people asking for admits stats.... GPA: 3.92 no GRE's- one summer research experience- and 2 years tutoring in urban schools- i think my experience truly helped me out considering most people applying to TC have high GPAs and test scores... good luck

  9. I am def. surprised that i found out so early... i randomly checked the applyyourself site and a new option appeared titled "admission decision". I guess just keep checking the site because i have yet to get an email actually telling me to look at the site ha

  13. Hello everyone! Im considering NYU for the fall of 2011. I know of the reputation that comes with NYU, and i also read in the US news that Steinhardt ranked #16 among education programs. However, i just wanted to get the opinions of some people off the site as to how good NYU actually is. thanks everyone!
  14. thank you! yeah im applying for social studies ED. programs.its only a few comma mistakes in the PS so it shouldnt be too much of a hassle for them..
  15. in an email I got after i sent my App. in it said we should hear (masters students) by march 15
  16. Hello everyone! i submitted my Personal Statements for my schools almost a month ago but i decided ( i should not have ha) to re-read my statement. While re-reading it i realized i have a several sentences that should have commas and do not. Do you think this kind of mistake could seriously upset the admissions people? thank you!
  17. thank you for such a detailed response! btw i put this in the education forum because shes applying for ED. programs. She is applying for her Masters degree so I dont know if she'l actually be working with a professor. but i think its good she went regardless...
  18. haha im in the same boat as you! btw a friend of mine heard that she got in for last fall on Feb. 23rd (masters in art education) so keep checking!
  19. This afternoon i had a conversation with a peer who is applying to graduate school. She told me she visited the school this past summer and spoke with a professor in the program she is applying to. However, the professor is not on the admissions board this year, but did tell her to email him when she submits her application. My question (and hers) is will this actually make a difference by helping her odds? I said to her that i believe it will because she actually visited the school and showed a certain level of commitment in doing so... anyway, id like to hear everyones opinions so i can get back to her with a good response!! thanks guys

  23. Hi everyone im pretty new to this site so i hope i am posting this in the right section! but i just sent in my application on the 15th and already im bugging out haha.. does anyone else feel this way about TC or any other graduate school?
  24. I also applied to TC ( different program) but you can actually edit your Personal Statement even though you already submitted... you just have to call the admissions office and they will give you directions on how to do so... I am actually a very similar applicant to you. 3.9 GPA, top 15 school etc etc etc. I visited TC last year and spoke with a professor in my program and what she told me to do for the statement is be as clear as possible. She said its ok to go two pages as long as you're clearly addressing the questions they ask in the 'guide to admissions'. Work experience, graduate ambitions, professional ambitions, research interests/aspirations, why TC?, how can TC help you reach your goals... thats what she said to include in the statement. She also said it is very important to get your app. in by the Jan. 15th deadline.. good luck
