oh yeah, i applied to the regular drama MFA at UT and they're still ghosting me. i think they also get a lot of ppl who applied there as a backup for michener (like my advisor told me to do,) so they're probably kinda catty about who they pick LOL. hope the iowa waitlist shakes out Mel! there's always at least one person who can't come for whatever reason, so fingers crossed for you

of course this is all happening on TDOV too lol. vibes. i think this is the end of the road for me, gradcafe! i'm at on twitter at @crispy_yom, npx is here. this 12 year old thread was a total beacon in this garbage process and whenever i felt shitty i was reminded of how many people i admire that were in this exact same spot. it is my sincere hope i get to see all yalls plays someday. ? heres the final body count: UT (michener) ❌ - hunter ❌ - new school ❌ - columbia ❌ - iowa ❌ CMU ✅ let's get this ? ...

just got the official rejection from columbia... LOL and they put a Ms. at the top of the form even though i very clearly put down my gender as nonbinary in every form and talked about it in my application. cringe!

lol same boat. i emailed Columbia SOA admissions today to ask what the decision timeline was and they said "within a week" ... ay caramba man!!! expecting a no at this point but just want closure already. also ended up asking CMU for an extension on the Friday deadline; unfortunately they are not part of the Council of Graduate Schools so i couldn't push the april 15 rule. i think i'm well within my right to ask for more time, but i feel like i'll have to forego some funding or something...or maybe they'll give me More funding? who knows.

so...do yall think if I ask nicely and remind them they're my top choice, CMU will give me a brief extension on the march 25 decision deadline? both for practical reasons (it's still really early and i'm waiting on a few more schools) and "extenuating circumstances" reasons?
-
lol so I'm guessing it's a no from columbia... i'm gonna stay in denial until the official email rolls in. they said i'd hear back in about a week last thursday, and all i've seen is that twitter post about someone else getting in--mildly humiliating but we'll live... it's also like, do i just want to get in because it's an ivy league in ny, or because it's actually a good fit? idk, my gradcafe fam. like a few of yall i def felt a more obvious connection with the folks at carnegie, but now that i'm facing down the possibility of moving to a city i know nothing about where i know no one, it's hard to tell what the right choice really is. gotta say this part of the process is way worse than the personal statement or sample stress LOL!! </vent> as they used to say... how is everyone else's decision making coming along?
-
haha i believe it's a perfect time since we're all in the lurch and contemplating our choices... 3/6 of the schools i applied to were NYC based, for all the normal reasons. seeing theatre feels key to a theatre education, have friends/family there, easiest to get to, etc. new school, hunter, columbia all have excellent programs and are flexible in different ways. iowa and UT were moonshots that predictably missed. tbh, the only school that's passing the vibe check (on either end) so far is CMU! they seem intimate and focused with a lot of room for experimentation. rob & melissa seem very kind and smart. technically it's a dual screenwriting playwriting program, but apparently students in the past have done all kinds of things, including collaborating with the game design department, something totally up my alley. the Sloan grant is a really cool opportunity! and...the cost of living in pittsburgh is wayyy more reasonable. it seems like a good place to hunker down and be a grad student for 2 years. but who knows.
-
btw, checked UT MyStatus to find the official denial of my Michener application, if ur looking for closure it's there
-
email! if you check the admissions portal they might have an update -- fingers crossed for ya
-
just got a columbia interview request... screaming, crying, throwing up etc
-
yasssss congrats!! it would be sick if we were all cohort buddies. march 25 feels like SO SOON for a decision, and if i'm going to visit pittsburgh i need to do it like, yesterday because there is a big conference in my city this month that makes traveling pretty hellish. hopefully some more decisions roll out in the next week or so... CMU thus far seems like the most natural mesh with my interests, and R&M seemed genuinely invested, but it's hard to tell when it's ur only offer ahhhh!!!!
-
just got a yes from CMU (on my birthday no less) ... !!! btw, my friend at iowa says dept. is still going through applications as well, so hold tight!
-
well...... only 2-ish more months of agony to go
