  1. I’ve seen a lot of people who are negative/unsure about their Columbia offers. I wouldn’t be surprised at all of they go to their waitlist but I would also not count on funding from them. I know at least 1 person in poetry and 1 person in fiction (both from draft) are turning down their offers at Sarah Lawrence — not sure if they’ve officially declined yet.
  2. Hey there! They told me the waitlist was 12 people long. I emailed the director for my ranking and they provided it, so I would reach out if you’re curious! It does look like poetry spots are starting to open up, and I saw at least 1 fiction spot open up, but I suspect there will be more movement there as some of the draft posters seems to be accepted to multiple programs in addition to South Carolina.
  3. I can try! You mean waitlist movement for them? Or just generally any updates?
  4. Thanks! I did apply in fiction. I’m not sure how many people are on the waitlist, but I did see a handful of people in draft who’d been waitlisted as well, so I don’t think my chances are all that good! But that’s okay, I have other acceptances and waitlists I’m really excited about but it would be nice to just know one way or the other so I can finally make a decision!
  5. South Carolina. I heard back from them that I was waitlisted exactly 1 week ago.. I think all acceptances and waitlists are out for them in every genre from what I can gather. I’m not sure about Southern California though, I know they’ve sent acceptances in their PhD program.
  6. I don’t think so, one person turned down their spot at Michigan a week or so ago but thats likely been offered now. There’s someone who’s in at Michigan who’s also in at Vandy and waitlisted at Michener. They haven’t posted a final decision but seems like they’re aiming for Austin, so maybe some hope there! Didn’t see much for Indiana.
  7. Not that I saw.. I did see that UNLV hadn’t made all fiction notifications as of 3/24, but nothing recent on waitlists and movement for them
  8. Waitlist news from draft… spots are opening at the following UVA, poetry IUB, poetry Ole Miss, poetry Texas state, poetry U of SC, fiction FAU, fiction GMU, fiction UNCG, fiction UNLV, CNF WKU, CNF (unfunded)
  9. I think they applied dual genre! It also looks like there will be waitlist movement at UVA (fiction)
  10. I’ve heard really good things about the program. I was especially interested in how many classes you could take in other depts (American Indian studies, env studies etc.) it’s definitely an established program and seems like it has good resources in terms of visiting writers, events, opportunities for MFA students etc. I talked to some current students who all had good things to say, but I ultimately turned down my spot there because I decided it was too far from home. I think I would’ve been happy there though! I’d recommend getting in touch with students if you can!
  11. What genre are you in? Someone turned down their fiction spot last week, but I don’t recall seeing other declined Cornell offers. Happy to keep an eye for ya in draft!
  12. Waitlist notifications for fiction went via email this morning, not sure about poetry though!
  13. Any chance you applied to UNCG, VA tech, or WVU and can subject them to your impatient neuroses?? Lol
  14. University of New Mexico? If yes, there was another person who’d asked this morning if anyone had heard anything. It sounded like they are late to notify this year compared to last.
  15. The Hollins waitlist looks big — maybe >15 people between here and draft. It’s also not separated by genre as far as I know, so they don’t have a quota of 3 fiction, 3CNF, 3 poetry for example. So it’s really hard to know who’s getting bumped of the waitlist as it probably matters the kind of writer that turned down their spot. It seems like a pretty holistic admissions process from their FAQ page. Also, I was under the impression everyone admitted also got tuition remission and a stipend, and you could apply to the teaching fellowship after you’re admitted. Maybe I’m wrong on this? I saw the other recent waitlist post mentioning they were concerned about funding, but I don’t think it’s unlikely in the event you get moved up from the waitlist. Good luck to you!
  16. Congratulations! I literally came straight here to see if you got good news lol, I know you were excited about this one! I’m waitlisted for fiction too — maybe we’ll be cohort members!
  17. Any news on UNCG waitlists? I saw a few interviews, acceptances, and rejections come out, but I've received no word. Maybe trickle rejections are in my future.
  18. @asf did you try taking the New Yorker test?
  19. In the spirit of waitlist limbo, I’m turning down my fiction spots at Oklahoma State, western Kentucky, and UNCW. If anyone is hoping for some good news from them, I do hope this moves you up on the list (for acceptance or funding!) For those on waitlists, I’ve talked to a few program directors at the schools I’m waitlisted at, and I’ve created a process on how to move forward from here! Let me know if there’s anything else you’d add to the list below! 1)respond to the waitlist notification and let them know that you are interested (if you really are interested!) I was waitlisted at one of my top choices, so I told them candidly, “if I am offered admission, I am confident I will accept.” I think it’s okay to be direct and excited! 2) ask any questions that might be relevant to your decision (ranking, funding, program-specific). Some of the faculty I talked to offered to set up calls with me, so be sure to inquire about that if you’re interested. 3) evaluate your options and research the programs! If they reach out with a notification, be ready to decline or accept ASAP. The sooner we all respond, the sooner we are all off waitlists (or can confirm there’s no chance of admission and make other plans.) 4) if you have a dominant offer in mind, go ahead and turn down your spots at other programs. If you’re on the waitlist at a place you know you won’t attend, you can remove yourself from the waitlist as well. finally, if you have a funded offer, you are under no obligation to make a decision until April 15. If a school asks you to inform them earlier, it is likely that they are asking to streamline their own process (and as courtesy to their waitlisted applicants.) several of my acceptances asked me to let them know in 7 days or two weeks, but I confirmed that this was not a formal deadline. I saw that some people felt the deadlines given were shady or aggressive, but just know that if you are accepted with funding, your spot is yours until April 15th. That’s all from me!
  20. They notified with interview requests a couple weeks ago in both poetry and fiction (according to the results page.) I believe both sets of interviews were done last week but not sure about poetry. So far, haven’t heard anything back following the interview.
  21. This person made up a “test” to verify your likelihood of being admitted to a program. It involves pairing your writing with two current pieces from the New Yorker and asking someone who is unfamiliar with much literature (the mastermind of the “test” refers to this type of person as “illiterate”) to pick out the one that is different. If they pick yours, you’re not getting in. It operates on the assumption that people are published in the New Yorker based on their writing and merit alone as well as the assumption that admissions committees exclusively read the New Yorker despite the majority of them working, editing, and publishing in other journals. The same person who made up this test consistently makes up statistics about admissions rates etc. There’s been much speculation around whether or not this person is actually a writer and applying to programs. I would say they are certainly a humanist, perhaps not a writer, but they’re not in any field that would require them to know what an independent variable is. They feed on this forum being full of people who are putting their work out into the world and the vulnerability that goes along with that. Having an idea of what work is being published and contemporary literature might be constructive to your writing, but only you can decide that, and any advisor to your admissions process worth their weight would tell you to read wider than the New Yorker. Ignore whatever this person says.
  22. Hey everyone, I was recently invited to interview with a program I applied to, and I’m wondering if you all have advice on what to expect and what I should be sure to talk about. They did mention to be prepared to talk about my goals as a writer and what I hope to gain from and contribute to the program. The interview will be very short, so I wonder if it’s mostly about fit for and a screening of sorts for personality? I’d love to hear about any of your experiences!
  23. Has anyone heard anything from Miami University (ohio)? In years past they've notified starting in late January.
