Hi all, Can I confirm that those who got into the PSE program ONLY got a postal letter and not a phone call or email? I know this can be the case for a masters but I expected that normally Ph.D applicants would get a phone call at least . EDIT: Sorry, I think I misunderstood the posts. It does appear that people received an email...
-
That's great anyway, can't imagine how happy you must be! What program did you apply to? Can I ask about your stats?
-
A number of Ed.D acceptances have been posted - shall I assume they have all been contacted?
-
As if I need another reason to check my email obsessively every 5 mins... a bag of nerves but would love to hear either way! Again, would love to hear from the person who posted their results (congrats)
-
This seems like a perfectly reasonable objection! If a program has, say 5 funded places, and the original poster was first on a waiting list, then if someone drops out of the original five they still have a funded place. Why should that funding 'disappear' if an offer is turned down?
-
Sorry to hear that - what program was this for?

Hello all, I was wondering whether anyone could comment on whether a $23000 stipend would be unreasonable to live on in NYC? I would obviously have to live somewhere aside from Manhattan, but given the cost of the rent alone, this seems a stretch. I could probably supplement that 23K with some kind of TA or RA ship too, but can't confirm this...

i'd appreciate your stats too, as I also applied to DAPS. Congratulations though!
-
I don't know! It seems a little early, as you say. These fake posters are really frustrating....
-
Yeah, Psych Development at Steinhardt. You're right though, I'm pretty sure they take very few students indeed...
-
I am pretty sure the NYU invites are already sent out, as I got mine a few days ago and it looked like a group email...
-
Congratulations! I am also applying to the PSE program. May I ask who your supervisor is and any stats? Thanks!

There was a posting on the results page of an acceptance by post for a Ph.D in Education at HGSE. Anyone know anything about this? Slightly dubious as it is as Ed.D and I would be surprised if they informed people via post....
-
Do you know if TC do interviews for their programs? I am applying to the PhD in Developmental Psychology....
-
I'm struggling! This wait is excruciating. Hopefully they will let us know slightly before the end of March date they have on the website....
-
I also applied to Psych studies in Education Ph.D. Good luck!
-
I thought UCLA didn't have interviews - at least that's what I remember from trawling through the website a while ago....
-
Mine took a while to be processed. Not sure if you applied to Ed.D or Ed.M programs but I don't think they update the application materials till a few days after the closing date for the program. Wait a couple of days and then email if nothing has changed.
-
thanks, that is really useful advice indeed. Kind of wish I had known that before I applied!

Well, its my impression that standard economics departments are particularly unsympathetic to psychology, as it seems to undermine most of their assumptions about economic theory (this is a huge generalisation though!). I think that if you were to apply to a Psychology department, it would be very difficult to get into a Ph.D, having not had many high level classes in this area. You could: - complete a relevant Masters program to give you a better grasp of the area and demonstrate your competency in Psych based courses. A great course in the UK (where I am now) is for example, is: http://www.ucl.ac.uk/lifesciences-faculty/degree-programmes/cognitive-decision-sciences - apply to an economics program which has crossdisciplinary links with psychology departments. For example, NYU's Neuroeconomics research group has students from a variety of different fields working there http://www.neuroeconomics.nyu.edu/index.php

Economic decision making and neuro-economics are quite growing fields in Psychology at the moment. The basic assumption is that standard economic models of human behaviour are that we are rational agents, whereas psychology would say that we make biased and heuristically determined behaviour. Some key people are Dan Ariely (Duke), Richard Thaler, Amon Tversky (Columbia), Kahneman. Hope thats useful.

does anyone know if the decision dates have changed from last year (either for Ed.D or Ed.M)? On the admissions page for last year a number of people were posting accepted/decision notification as early as late Feb.... Don't think I can wait much longer, and its still December!!

I second the previous comments. London Met is not respected at all. -

My impression of statements in the UK (I am currently a Masters student at UCL) is that you need to give a relatively straight forward account of your interests and motivation for the program, probably with less 'pizzaz' than what is expected in the US - basically eschewing the sentimentalised nature that is often expected over there.
