  1. Re: UofSC, I turned down my fiction offer earlier today, so hopefully expect waitlist movement there. For what it's worth, I don't think they sent out more offers than they have spots.
  2. They could just be waiting until 4/15 to start accepting people off the waitlist? Or could be some lag in processing? Or maybe they send more offers out than there are spots... I guess there's also a chance they tell a few people they're number 1 when they're really just near the top and depending on the type of applicant that turned down their offer that's how they choose the alternate (i.e. demographic/overall-vibes wise)?
  3. Just got waitlisted at UFlorida! I was very close to accepting my offer to UMass Amherst, but will now wait until closer to 4/15. What are peoples thoughts on both programs? I feel like in terms of reputation in the lit world they're similar enough? Everyone at UMass has been very friendly, but they're asking for $6K in fees which seems unfeasible to me entering my first year. I remain... dumbfounded at that surprise price tag. Anyway, appreciate any thoughts on both programs. I don't know if there will be any movement with Florida since they only have two spots to begin with, but still, making my mental calculations now rather than later.
  4. I did! I definitely had prepared for more writing/teaching practice questions rather than just generic job interview questions, and was very thrown off when I got faaar more of the latter than I expected. I think the beginning of my interview went terribly but the second half went much better? I got good news from the program eventually so I guess it wasn't as bad as I imagined haha
  5. @EmilyKate1 from my understanding, all acceptances have gone out, and so have waitlist offers. I haven't received a rejection yet, but I don't doubt that's what's coming. Sorry to the both of us! Two is so tiny for a cohort.
  6. I feel ya, it really does feel like a weird trickle of rejections. I'm guessing acceptances might be next but who knows (and who knows when exactly that'll be)!
  7. @Rm714 I would still give it another week before checking in, I feel the dates they give are always such a rough estimate.
  8. Yeah, there were several rejections posted. I'm also waiting to hear back, it's weird that it doesn't seem like all the rejections went out at once. I could be wrong.
  9. University of Florida acceptance on Draft... only took 2 poets and 2 fiction writers this year. Down from 3 last year and 6 the year before?
  10. Do we know if BU staggers rejections? They seem slow coming in / I haven't heard a peep from them.
  11. I see a BU Fiction rejection on the results page...
  12. I sorta thought there'd be more Iowa fiction acceptances. Could it really be that only 3 of the 20 accepted frequent Draft and Grad Cafe?
  13. @neche good luck to us both!! I would love to go to Florida, but I'm certain they got my weakest app out of the bunch. No SOP and the smallest word/page count requirement in terms of writing sample.
  14. I'm waiting to hear from: UMass Amherst (interviewed) UFlorida UNLV BU Iowa (likely rejection, though I don't think all acceptances have been notified yet, could be wrong) I got good news from South Carolina, though the stipend isn't the greatest.
  15. @BCBCBC they 100% will e-mail you if they can't reach you by phone. Don't sweat it.
  16. I think it's a little of both! Still, people with zero publications or coming from other fields are accepted all the time. It's so subjective. And, in the end, it really all comes down to your writing sample regardless of when you graduated, etc! Which is ultimately a good thing!
  17. Welcome! This is not a hard and fast rule. In general, I think adcoms are looking for people who are both certain that this is what they want (so, people who have graduated and thought about this well enough, and also have some life experience to bring to the table), and who have proven to be able to work on their writing independently, since that is essentially what we'll be doing. That doesn't mean they don't ever accept people who are only just graduating. That said, I think it's still a little rare.
  18. Only seeing Fiction so far. Usually they are notified within a week of each other, though I've seen some seasons where Poetry is a smidge later.
  19. Do we know from past years if Iowa calls alphabetically? lol
  20. I did the same, they just take forever to accept. Like, weeks. There's also a questionnaire you have to fill out that I missed the first time.
  21. thanks!! either they're doing things a little different this year or are fully a month behind, who knows
  22. I think only interview requests. I have mine next week -- in their email they said decisions might not come until early March.
