  1. For anyone who's been waiting to hear from UMich on the joint public policy/sociology program, I just got my decision via email! They really took their sweet time this year it seems like
  2. I was given an offer off of the waitlist myself but just turned it down, after receiving an offer from my top choice this morning! Best of luck to you!
  3. Will be turning down my offer from Brandeis/Heller's Social Policy PhD program, just a heads up to anyone on their waitlist! Was lucky to be admitted off of it myself but going with a much better fit that's offering me more.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion! Was it the graduate coordinator who you emailed, or someone else? Just making sure I'm directing this follow-up email to the right place, in case I got it wrong the first time around!
  5. Hey! Do you remember how long it took for you to hear back from UPenn when you emailed the program for an update? I'm curious as I still haven't gotten a response, and I emailed them nearly 2 weeks ago. I'm in agony waiting ugh this dragging of feet is driving me insane!
  6. I noticed that from an earlier comment and actually sent an email to them this morning! Thanks!! Hoping they get back to me soon so that I'm taken out of this misery haha ugh
  7. Anyone get a rejection from UPenn yet? I'm getting so impatient to get an official response so that I can move on with my life and know for sure that I'm out of the running for them!
  8. They're one of my last programs to hear back from too! Hoping they release decisions soon!
  9. Northwestern decisions are out. Another rejection for me. Now at 3 rejections, 3 waitlists, zero offers, 4 more to hear back from, though I know 2 of those are going to be rejections based off of what folks have posted here from those schools. Y'all, my hope is officially lost. Wishing others much better outcomes than I've gotten.
  10. Would you happen to know if NYU makes decisions on a rolling basis? Or is it all in one go
  11. Just got waitlisted at Brandeis. Third waitlist for me, after two rejections, with zero offers at this point. Five more to hear back from but at this rate my faith in myself is severely plummeting. Good luck to anyone else waiting to hear back from Brandeis, it sounds like it's going to be a small cohort this year!
  12. I applied to PhD programs this year for my second cycle in a row, but I’m about to be 31 and am currently after a job in academia which I know is insanely competitive. I’ve wanted to work as a professor in my field literally since I was 15, but I’m facing 2 rejections and 2 waitlists so far, so I’m not feeling very confident I’m going to be accepted anywhere (applied to primarily joint sociology/public policy degrees, and one education program). I’ve worked as a researcher for the past 10 years (6 years at my current job) and am trying to think of jobs to think about applying to while I wait to get the rest of my application decisions. I’ll be wrapping up my Master’s in Public Policy this spring and then really wanna get out of my current position which I have very much outgrown - have been underpaid and overqualified in this role for a couple of years now. If this cycle goes poorly and I don't get accepted to any PhD programs, I may just give up at this point. I feel sad thinking about that, but I simply don't know if I can afford (mentally or financially) to keep trying to get a doctoral degree in the face of so much failure. That being said, I'd like to consider applying to jobs I'll not only be qualified for with my MPP, but could be in for the long-term/have chances for moving up the ladder at. For others who have MPP degrees and work in research, what do you do and how much do you make? I’m in the education field if that helps, and I very much love studying education policy, but am open to other areas. Educational inequities are a big interest of mine. Thanks in advance!
  13. Thank you, I appreciate it. You summed it up well, I can imagine there are political pieces behind this that likely played a part, that had nothing to do with me or my qualifications I'm just kind of floored that the many years I've spent here busting my ass amounted to a waitlist spot, after so many high ranking professors/faculty claiming "we can't wait until you're a doctoral student here studying xyz with xyz." This is also my second waitlist, in addition to 2 rejections, so I think that's part of why this is hitting so hard.
