  1. Do people ever reach out after an interview about a timeline for decisions?
  2. I appreciate your advice. I agree that I only applied to a small handful of top programs, but, I have a home in NJ with my wife and son and am unwilling to relocate for PhD. So my list won’t be amenable to change one cycle to the next. Instead, I am focused on improving my application (equally difficult given that I don’t want to take out even more student loans for masters credential.) Gonna ask faculty mentors for some advice.
  3. Yeah, CUNY and Yale have def had their final nail in the coffin. Pretty sure I butchered my Rutgers interview, so that just leaves NYU and Princeton for me. Pretty sure I’ll be reapplying next year lol. Already starting to lick my wounds.
  4. Does anyone know anything or have thoughts about CUNY MALS? Masters in Liberal Studies? More loans but might need to consider Masters to boost application.
  5. I really have no idea, BUT my sense from years of previous posts suggests they only admit those they interviewed.
  6. Congratulations! Sounds like a very positive interview, and thanks for clueing us all in. I was just practicing my “tell me about yourself” response when I saw your update I am relieved to know it is so casual and comfortable. Did she mention anything about hearing back, number of interviewees, etc?
  7. Euclydian, great to hear from you! If you don't mind me saying, 3 years is shorter than expected program structure, were there reasons for your leaving, or perhaps did you come into the program after completing coursework elsewhere? Also, could you share some general experiences in the program, as well as your research interests, maybe even some of the faculty you worked with and your impression of them? I am quite interested in the program and would value your advice as a previous student.
  8. I am scheduled for interview next week… I get the sense they are interviewing a very large group, so cuts will still have to be made after… the meeting is so short and not with my POIs so I am unsure how to prepare beyond reviewing my materials and being prepared as I would for any other interview!
  9. Thank you, I appreciate you offering advice. Guess i've got some reviewing to do!
  10. Yes, same initials, also not faculty I listed. My assumption is they are on the admissions committee. Now I am not sure how to approach or prepare for the interview, and I am unbelievably nervous. Feeling like a fish out of water.
  11. Congrats!!! I know you are a reapplicant, do you have any experience with Rutgers from a previous cycle?
  12. Hey all, just wanted to share that I just received an invitation for interview a Rutgers! Literally shaking lol.
  13. The only work I’m familiar with is Posselt, where else would you suggest I explore? Soc of ed is not my area by far, but was largely focused in my undergrad curriculum… when I have brought up posselt’s work to people (faculty of different disciplines on Reddit lol) recently, they have suggested it is out of date and does not reflect the nature of grad admissions today (they basically felt spited by Posselt and think it’s way more judicious and less slighted to GRE and social biases now.) Is there any more current work you might suggest?
  14. Holy crap. You put in the work for sure! Maybe a starting point is reaching out to faculty mentors for some research opportunities directly. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you this cycle!
