  1. Hopefully you will get an acceptance letter. From the course enrollment through Beartracks, I can still see about half a spot not taken for specialized courses for Global Health. Maybe U of A are still working on decisions. Sometimes, people can go up until June to get their acceptance! Sending positive vibes! (:
  2. Is U of A your top choice? I'm not sure who your prospective supervisor is, but I reached out to several, and they also said the same. I didn't put their name down for my application. Instead, I was fortunate to meet my current supervisor and another supervisor (she is now on my thesis committee) through Zoom, which allowed us to know each other better. Because there are so many applicants and few supervisors, it can be challenging to write down the supervisor as you have to compete with other students who did the same. I prefer to speak with them, and it might be more meaningful compared to just write a name, but I hope you hear soon! Don't be discouraged because I hear that offers can go until June! Always happy to chat more if you want to, and congratulations on your offer from Saskatchewan!
  3. I'm from Vancouver, so I know both schools pretty well. I did my undergrad at SFU though. UBC is definitely more reputable than SFU as it is the second best university in Canada (ranked after University of Toronto). SFU is ranked 12th. It really just depends on you for which school you want to go in the end. Vancouver is expensive in terms of living in general (lol), so that is a factor to consider when you arrive, but if you have a chance to go to UBC, it would be a good experience! The campus is really beautiful, and I'm sure you will love it too. SFU campus is not as nice, but I didn't regret doing my undergrad there as I met some great people in my life (professors and friends). Both are commuter schools, so it's hard to make friends, but if you're living on residence, I think it shouldn't be an issue! Hope that helps! 🙂
  4. No, I have someone else as a supervisor. My supervisor and I are going to work on grants for funding in the fall. I have been in touch with another professor who is close with my supervisor. I have the option to research under this professor too if I wanted, but details will be discussed more later. Hope that helps!
  5. Ahh, congratulations!! This thread is going super strong this year! 🙂
  6. Hello! I updated on the other forum, but I got accepted a month ago. I emailed my PI, and she told me that I would get news on March 27th, which I did. I accepted my offer too. I hope you hear soon! We can be classmates!!
  7. In my opinion, I think 4.33 is not the end of the world. Many of us just prefer to have percentages along with the system because the 4.33 scale (letter grades) does not truly represent what we got in class. I had a class where I scored 89% but only received an A- (would be A for UBC) because of how the class is graded. In SFU business school, some professors curve down, so students with like 79% can get a C+ even if the percentage is supposed to be at a higher letter grade. If you do well though, it's not really a huge issue. I know people who got into law and med school despite of what we used at SFU, as long as you work hard, it's fine.
  8. I studied at SFU for undergrad, and I currently live in Vancouver. I am going to U of A too, but that's because I want to switch my environment then come back as my family is here. Vancouver is great in terms of weather, and transit is definitely great if you live a little further off campus (even though many of us complain about it). We have frequent busses and a skytrain. The city is smaller in general, and everything is connected. Of course, that comes with expensive living. The rent here will be more compared to Edmonton. It will continue to rise as more people come, and right now, I think a bedroom is at least 1650 (at least for my friend). The price will vary where you are located. Closer to campus will definitely be higher. In terms of ranking, U of A is ranked 4th in Canada compared to SFU that is ranked 12th. I studied Health Sciences at SFU, so I know the faculty quite well, and the professors are super awesome. We rank on a 4.33 scale, and it's a huge disadvantage when it comes to grades. Many students complain about this, but I'm sure if you do well, I don't think it affects you at all. That said, it really depends on many factors for you. Hope that helps!! 9. Good luck to U of T applicants. Hope you hear good news soon, considering how strong this thread has been for most of us!
  10. I applied to Global Health stream! Hopefully, a supervisor reaches out to you soon! I believe offers are still rolling out.
  11. Hope you hear soon! I think it takes a little longer if a supervisor hasn't contacted you yet. Most likely, interviews or emails are going on to see which student they will accept. Good luck!!
  12. On this forum, two of us (including me) was offered a spot from U of A. I know one other person on Reddit who got an offer too, but this is because all of us had supervisors reached out or beforehand. When you have a supervisor, the process is a lot faster compared to no supervisor. If not, I think you would have to wait. What stream are you in?
  13. Thank you! I'm not from Alberta. I'm from BC, and I will be moving with my family to Alberta. We want to settle down with a place of our own, and we always wanted to move to Alberta. BC Housing is not ideal, haha. I applied with a CGPA of 3.05, and my last two years was around 3.17. It's a super weak stat on my end, so I was so afraid that I would get rejected. I do have a variety of healthcare related experience though. I am currently a volunteer at a hospital (for seven months now). I previously worked as a lab tech for co-op, and I volunteered at a dialysis unit and a medical clinic. I was also involved with a club that focuses on student mentorship at my uni. Overall, I didn't think I have a good chance lol, but I think getting in touch with a supervisor beforehand helps.
  14. Saw some comments on the MPH thread on Reddit. I believe two people got an offer from UBC today!
  15. Just the unofficial one from the school. I think I have to wait a while for the official letter!
