Hey! I only applied this round and got in, but I have talked to many, MANY people about what to do if I did not get in. What I would do if I was in your position is take the phonetics course. Your sGPA is quite high already. If you do well in phonetics it should get you to a 3.8; the only school this would be "low" for is Mac, but I think it would still give you a shot.  I would also recommend gaining volunteer experience. This would give you more things to talk about in your SOI and would make your application as a whole look better as it would show you are serious about the field and you know what you're getting into. If you do decide to take more courses, I would do them in the summer (summer courses tend to be easier imo haha), and take easy courses you know you will do well in. Good luck!

Hi! Not sure if this will help you, but this is what I did.
Last year I was rejected from Mcmaster, UofT, McGill and UdeM. This year rejected from McMaster, Western, UofT, but I was accepted to UOttawa.
To improve my GPA and application in general, I found another volunteer position with SLPs running a PEERS program here in Toronto, and they wrote a reference for me.
I also took classes through Eastern New Mexico University. I actually found out about them through another person in a thread from a previous year. They run a 2nd Bachelor's in Communicative Disorders so the classes would be related on top of being at the undergraduate level so it counts towards subGPA calculations. They are EXTREMELY affordable compared to other US schools (semester was the same as when I was doing undergrad in Toronto, and you can get money from OSAP). It is totally online and totally asynchronous. If you work at it, you can get As no problem, most things are open book. I think I had only 1 proctored exam and I took 6 classes with them. I registered with them right after I was rejected in April, and managed to get in on time to do the summer semester with them, as well as Fall. Might help you if you want to get more classes in before applications at the end of the year. Also really felt like it prepared me much more for what I am about to study, and much better than taking random courses. Some of the courses I did with them I even got to use as prereqs for Western and UOttawa (UofT is kind of strict and only wants general courses not specifically related to SLP which in my mind is weird but ok)
Realized this post is already super long (sorry everyone) if you have more questions you can message me!
To everyone who didn't get in this year, I feel you, I was there, don't give up and GOOD JOB for working hard until this point ❤️

People who got acceptance letters last week from Dal have until tmr to answer, so I think people who haven't heard will hear back this week (hopefully!!!!)

I was initially waitlisted at Toronto and McMaster and rejected at Western for SLP. But I just got the call now from Toronto that I’m accepted off the waitlist!!! I couldn’t be happier and I’m still shaking! So excited to see everyone in Toronto next year and if there’s a groupchat I could join, that would be great!!

I just received an email that a decision was made for my McGill application and I was rejected. I just accepted my spot at Western and am so thankful I was accepted there. Congratulations to everyone who has received acceptances, and I hope everyone still waiting to hear back/was waitlisted is doing okay. I know we have all worked so hard and I hope everyone here gets accepted ❤️

Did anyone else receive a call from Western? I saw my offer last night but didn't expect to get a call as well.

    Hey everyone 🤗,
Congratulations to all, you should be proud of yourselves ❤️ Even to those who have been rejected, you completed applications and mustered the courage to even try. That is an achievement in itself. Please do not give up, SLPs are now more than ever in high demand! Last year I was only wait listed at Western and rejected by U of A, U of T, McMaster, McGill, and Dalhousie. I cried in my school library so I had to silent cry lol. However, this year I have been offered admission by both U of A and Western. I am very grateful to even have a choice but I am struggling to decide. If anyone has any pros or cons or general input about either program I would love to hear them.

Hey everyone, current 2nd year Dal student here! First and foremost, I know you all worked incredibly hard for this and I'm super proud of you all 😄 Im crossing my fingers for you!
Here is some info on what acceptances were like, at least 2 years ago: Dal students got their acceptances all throughout the summer, often with no warning. One of my friends got accepted 2 weeks before the program started. TWO of my classmates got accepted to Western while we were still in class during the first week of school ahaha. So it seems that there was a lot of movement on the waitlists. Unfortunately, I know that at Dal last year, there was no movement on the waitlist. Everyone who was offered a position accepted. However, I dont know when they got their acceptance, I just heard that from the faculty.
I know this waiting time absolutely positively sucks. It's stressful not knowing what your life is going to be like in just a few months and you've put SO much of yourself into these applications. I have two pieces of advice: 1) stay busy, stay distracted, and cultivate other aspects of your life outside of school so that even if you dont get accepted, you can more easily recognize parts of your identity outside of being a prospective SLP student. Because remember, you are more than these applications! You are a full human being and acceptances are important, but they do not define you. 2) This will likely be unpopular: while youre waiting on a response do not ask people who were accepted their scores. Their scores do not effectively give you any indication if you will be accepted or not and what you are most likely doing is comparing yourself to the top of the class.  Certain schools may lean more heavily on certain aspects of an application, but they do consider apps holistically. Schools don't send out acceptances linearly by going down sGPA and caspr scores, thats just not how it works. Plus, each school has a different criteria that we may have inklings but dont truly know what they look at. For example, I got immediately rejected from Mac (my sGPA was too low to even get an interview) yet I got an acceptance from U of T April 1st. I also got 3 waitlists, McGill, Western and Dal, yet I only got off the waitlist for Dal. There was NO way for me to have predicted these results if I compared my sGPA to other people I assure you. Trust me, I hate how schools leave you in the dark and you're just trying to get some sliver of info, but I assure you that it is not productive.
Anyway, let me know if you have any questions about the Dal program, Im happy to help in anyway I can

Anyone else feeling frustrated with the timelines for hearing back from schools? I've applied to work in a more senior position at a company I'm already employed with for a year in case I don't get in and have to let them know if I'm accepting their offer of employment by this Saturday. Due to the nature of the interview and selection process they can't move back the deadline at all, so I essentially will have to accept without knowing about slp. If by some *miracle* I do end up getting in, I'm gonna feel so bad bailing on this company since they would have to start the interview/selection process from scratch to find a replacement. I wish grad schools realized that backup plans exist on a timeline too and it's unfortunate that everything is dependent on when they decide to get back to us (specifically the schools that accept on a rolling basis). Just wanted to get this off my chest, anyone else in a similar boat?
