  1. On top of everything, I fairly recently got into a serious relationship that is now going to have to continue long-distance for at least a year and is kind of tearing me apart.

THIS. I just met my boy two weeks ago, and I leave this Monday. Why couldn't my timing be better?!

Aside from that, I too have nothing packed and continue to squander the hours away on the internet, rather than figuring out how to transport six or seven boxes full of books.

  2. I've been accepted to (and will attend) UF's fully-funded MA program; however, the English department director told me that within the next few years, they will begin to phase out the MA and have a PhD only program. Just throwing that out there. But for the time being, it's an amazing deal with a fairly large stipend, especially considering the cost of living in Gainesville.

  3. I finally emailed Janet Atwater to see what had happened to my application (I've heard absolutely zilch this whole month), and I got an email back from Kristie Fleckenstein, one of the rhet/comp faculty. She said they were "enthusiastic" about my application, but they couldn't tell me anything for sure until next week. So...it sounds like I'm waitlisted, and they may be pulling from this list soon?

Needless to say, I'm starting to get excited. My only acceptance so far is to an unfunded program, so an FSU acceptance would be just the break I need.

Best of luck, ribeth! I will be declining my acceptance (MA) so I hope it helps you out!

  4. My fellow waitlistees, I received the following email today after I inquired into my placement on the list:

    "Dear ---,

As stated in my email below, we have a second round of applications to process by April 15th, and the situation remains in flux until then. I understand that this date may be later than you would like, considering you have other offers, but do know that we will be in touch immediately if a place opens up for you.

In the meantime, please let me know if I can be of any more help to you."

    So that sounds...not so great.

  5. Well, this is just.. wonderful. They never even considered my application. :( Somewhere between the FedEx in Ohio and their office, my writing sample vanished. No notification, no nothing. It was my first choice and I never even got the chance to be considered. (I had to call to find out this horrible news, too.)

UGH, this is awful! I'm so sorry :(

But hey, you're in at Temple! That's pretty awesome.

  6. Just going to echo everyone's sentiments and suggest WSU. I am in a similar position with CUNY's Master of Liberal Arts program and UF's fully funded MA. I have a feeling I'm going to accept UF's offer. At both schools, I will be preparing myself for PhD applications, but this way I won't go (completely) broke. Also, like Trip said, I believe ranking is less important for MAs than for PhDs.

  7. This program may be of interest to you:

"The low-residency MFA at SPU is a creative writing program for apprentice writers—both Christians and those of other traditions—who not only want to pursue excellence in the craft of writing but also place their work within the larger context of the Judeo-Christian tradition of faith."
