  1. Seconding this. Another person in at Syracuse and JHU accepted JHU a while back
  2. Apparently they committed to JHU last night so hopefully movement soon
  3. Seconding! I met him at a writers conference in 2014 and he was so lovely and encouraging
  4. There’s a shorter form note that’s below that. Above that is a handwritten note from the director. I think that’s it.
  5. @zaira Was that you that got into UVA off the waitlist??
  6. My understanding is they’re trying to make an informed decision after visiting all schools and so far has been like “wow it would be amazing to go here!” about every program during the visits. I think there are also some personal decisions around geography and with any decision like this there’s probably some overwhelm and different tradeoffs but I really don’t know much beyond that.
  7. Out of pure curiosity, I wish there was a board that showed how many spots each of these schools have and how many have been claimed. For example, it seems like Michigan fiction has had some recent movement but I wonder how long their waitlist is and how far through they’ve made it, etc.
  8. Probably. I lived in Ithaca and felt like I needed a car. It seems like it would be even more necessary in Syracuse. And there’s no train or anything that goes there so to leave you effectively need to drive (or fly)
  9. They’re visiting this week so fingers crossed the end is near
  10. Yeah my workshop mate is that person. They’re visiting all schools and then deciding. I think Syracuse and JHU are top of the list. There’s another person admitted at both those programs who might be leaning JHU (this is thirdhand information) because of transit etc limitations but I don’t think they’ve done their Syracuse visit yet. Unfortunately might be closer to 4/15 before you see movement. Keep us posted!
  11. FWIW my aunt lives outside Sun Valley and says she is genuinely very frightened for how red and backwards Idaho is (the newly elected legislature is trying to make abortion a death penalty offense and make birth control entirely illegal, people wear guns out in the open on holsters, they’re banning books including Harry Potter). I used to live in Portland, OR and I do think you get some far right extremists in Oregon when you leave the cities but I would personally be much more comfortable in Corvallis
  12. Fingers crossed for you! Are you on other waitlists / admitted elsewhere or are you UVA or bust for the season?
  13. Just got my NYU rejection which officially ends my season barring people pulling from reserves. F ‘em
  14. SFSU fiction acceptance just hit draft
  15. Fiction. I also feel like these decisions are being made on a semi rolling basis. I emailed last week to see if there was an update and they said they had just posted a decision to my account but it takes 7-10 days to release 🤷🏼‍♀️
  16. Ok finally got my Montana R. Now just waiting on my NYU soft R but after turning them down last year… even if something crazy happened and I got in again I probably wouldn’t go so I guess that’s it for me this season! Thanks for the camaraderie party people
  17. Omg congrats!! Will it be published somewhere we can check it out?
  18. Anyone else daydreaming that there’s too much overlap on these “short” waitlists and these schools end up dipping into the R pile? No? Just me? Ok cool
  19. I sent notes to NYU and Montana asking for status updates and Montana said: The department has input a decision however it takes approximately 7-10 business days for the Graduate School to process so it will hopefully be next week that you hear back. 🫠
  20. Ok yes agree but I do just want to say. MBA is so helpful for understanding a lot of very applicable things regarding how the world works and it’s pretty broad in application. Definitely follow your dreams follow your passion etc. But if you’re thinking of maybe doing a different grad program, it’s one that is way less narrow than say law school or med school. And there is something deeply satisfying about going into an app cycle with a little more transparency around your odds based on GMAT. That being said, I’ll be seeing you all back here in the fall for round 3 of MFA apps but if I didn’t already have an MBA the NYU program would be interesting to me. 🤗
  21. Last night while trying to check my NYU portal on my phone, I accidentally stumbled on NYU’s MBA/MFA dual degree page that helps prepare people for production jobs in I’m assuming TV and film. I already have an MBA, did not even apply to NYU back then because I didn’t want to navigate moving myself/my husband/my dog to NYC at the time (now I live here but whatever). But this seems like a cool program? And one that might bring some more work opportunities beyond teaching? Food for thought for the group.
  22. I think there’s a wisp of hope for Montana still. Otherwise I’m done
