In addition to asking for a deferral, would it be possible to ask to go part-time instead of full-time? That means, of course, that you won't be guaranteed funding, but you'll be able to do both at once. Or, alternatively, would you be able to switch to part-time at your job? And though it may be rare to defer PhD school, I have heard stories where people who were on the waitlist got in years later, so you could always reapply -- if your application was strong enough to get you in this round, it is bound to be stronger next time you apply because you'll have more experience. -

Got waitlisted for MSU, accepted to CWRU; neither one said anything about interviews, tho, so I don't know if that's just not a thing or if they didn't have enough candidates for it to be a requirement

I did for MSU, met with the professor i wanna do research with and a few of her students in person/online; i didn't for case western

i'm curious; what's everyone's top choice/research interest? I'm looking to go to MSU for prison policy for trans adults, with a focus on violence prevention. i've talked with a POI there and she's doing work at Riker's so i hope to work with her

also haven't heard anything from mine; trying (and failing) not to be anxious til the end of the month. good luck with your interview, don't forget to take a breath before each answer and don't be afraid to ask if they can come back to a question later.

Hallo! I applied to Michigan State's Social Work PhD and Case Western's Social Welfare PhD. I'm working on my MSW now and I'm licensed, but I don't have any published research, so we'll see how this goes.
