Yeah, I think the person who reported the rejection on the spreadsheet was most likely mistaken. Probably did not notice the date of the announcement on the website.
-
Gosh, that's rough. If I receive any email from these programs unconnected to my application status, I might jump out of my skin.
-
No word from them and this is the latest update I could find on their website: https://mfaenglish.olemiss.edu/the-mfa-faculty-has-notified-all-phase-ii-applicants/ - "This is an announcement that the MFA faculty has notified all Phase II applicants as of 02/07/2022. Thank you to all who applied." There's no update for 2023 let alone 2024. I'm only just learning that this is how they notify applicants about stage 2 (being as I applied to them last minute), but had I known that they don't even bother to reach out to those rejected and people have to dig through their website like scavenging hawks searching for indirect notices to decode, I'd have saved my energy altogether.

Interviews are usually scheduled for anything from 24 hours to a week-ish. I have never heard of an on-the-spot interview. Depending on the program, what they ask is varied. Typically, they want to get a feel of you and know how you'll fit into their program. Some with a stronger focus on teaching want to know how you approach teaching - in terms of pedagogical philosophy and/or experience. It's also your opportunity to find out more about the program/faculty/related things.
-
I think they've only notified poetry applicants (at least those accepted; we've only heard from one person so far, out of a presumed three). Fiction applicants (those accepted) can expect to hear back by next week.

100%. I have read every single post I can on draft '23. I even applied to join draft '22 and '21 but they rightly ignored me. The same way I scrolled through years and pages of mfa posts here on gradcafe. Lord knows what I could have achieved with all that time. You can find the draft '23 notification spreadsheet in this year's draft group. Just check the comments under the google sheet post.
-
Oh, that's fab! Congratulations! I hope you ace it.
-
Based on last year's notification patterns, Syracuse notifications for poetry go out two or three weeks earlier than the ones for fiction, so hold tight! You're still in the game. I'm absolutely with you on the switching tabs thing. Sending you virtual fist bumps of support. 👊🏾 Those were rejections; the actual acceptances went out in February. February 2/3 for poetry and 27/28 for fiction (at least according to posts on last year's Draft page).
-
Wow wow. People are reporting poetry acceptances from Johns Hopkins and University of South Florida on Draft.
-
Well I certainly hope so. The only difference was that last year's AWP happened in March - over a month later than this year's - so the notification season was already well under way. AWP came very early this year. Programs that notify early in February could have their schedule somehow impacted.
-
I know it's only Monday but this week already feels so silent. It's going to be torture getting through it to next week when the AWP buzz will have died down. By the way, congratulations to those attending AWP. I hope you have a good time there and meet lots of interesting people. *Frantically searching for something to occupy mind*
-
Same! It just feels like pointless time because I scroll and scroll and know there's almost certainly no news coming (although last year someone reported getting a call from Cornell on a Saturday). I'm just glad this weekend is halfway gone; soon it'll be Monday and I'll be back to my shenanigans, though AWP is sure to put a damper on that. I'm trying to school myself to wait through next week into the one after it. Hahaha! I'm happy for you! I hope you're finding your way around the troves of posts.

NOW, THAT'S WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!
-
There's a new report here on gradcafe. An acceptance from Northwestern Litowitz, CNF. You'd have to search with 'MFA' or 'Litowitz' as the key word, not 'creative writing'. Anyone else hear from them? Also, there's an interview report for playwriting from UT Austin. I'm thinking this is the program that's outside Michener and NWP because those typically don't request interviews. Also, for people who're not on Draft, a poetry applicant to Florida State University (FSU) reported getting an email informing them to expect an official offer of admission soon. It seems this week has a lot more news in store, so good luck to every one of us!

LMAO! I honestly don't know the criteria for letting people in because it's so slow. CONGRATULATIONS!!!! And yes, I would absolutely forget the remaining schools not yet applied to! The posts referred to were not made directly on Draft but on the linked response sheet (spreadsheet). Bummer. That's so annoying. If I could find the strength to apply, I'd still power through, though. Let the ball be in their court since the money's already spent. You're almost at the finish line. IT'S HAPPENING!! This is so exciting but also terrifying. Damn, why did my brain just remind me of a cringey faux pas line I wrote in my SOP? The anxiety is getting *worser*, Lol. As to why poetry responses aren't being reported at the same rates, it could be because in most programs, poetry and fiction are run by different internal administrators, so the calendars for notification might differ by genre.

You're welcome

Hi, congratulations on getting waitlisted! Not sure if you already know this, but you could click on the results tab at the top pf your screen, amd you'll see options to either view posted results or post your own result. When viewing general results, you can filter your search by typing 'creative writing' or 'mfa' for more relevant results. There's no spreadsheet here, though, only on Draft. From all the reports I've seen both here and on Draft, the notifications from U Indiana Bloomington all went out on January 29. So far, I've only seen waitlists and rejections, no one has come forward with an acceptance. I'm a litfic person, too! I think it's what my mind is most drawn to, fiction-wise, but I occasionally dabble in other fiction genres. I write poetry too, and less frequently, nonfiction. I admire all who write nonfiction such as @sunnysequoia but I'm more reticent with it because maybe I'm too scared to present my life to the world and bare my heart so directly. This is funny because a good chunk of my fiction and poetry is personal and draws from my world, but at least there I can varnish and play with it more freely. I do hope to write a collection of essays and maybe even a memoir someday when I'm ready.

Lol, I love how we're all coming out of the woodworks. Welcome!! Draft is known to be slow in approving requests to join, so I'd just say to wait it out. Hopefully the moderators will let you in within this week or the next.

Aww. 🫂

Ooh, that's a really cool background. I'm a first-time applicant who's done a number of "corporatey" things in the past. I'm waiting to hear from 12 schools for fiction: UT Austin, Wash U St Louis, Iowa, Cornell, Brown, UVA, Vanderbilt, U Wisc-Madison, Johns Hopkins, Michigan, and NYU. Hear! Hear! 💯
-
Those are all great schools! Fingers crossed for good news. Was your previous MFA in a different field or did you leave the program midway (just wondering why you're pursuing another MFA, but of course feel free not to answer if this question is too personal)?
-
Hi! It's good to have you here, welcome! Eight whole years and you're back, wow! Amazing how insistent our creative passions can be, even when we let them fall by the side for a while. I'm really glad you chose to share this because it is inspiring. I hope this application season presents you with resounding success and a truly wonderful place to develop your writing. What genre are you applying for and what schools have you submitted to?
-
Awww, I hope third time's the charm for you!!! Welcome to the forum! Considering how competitive these applications can be, 20 does not sound like an outrageous number of schools to apply to, honestly. And I get what you mean about being at a point where you want to be around other writers. It's the same for me. I feel like it's going to push my writing into a new and exciting (hopefully) stage. Hoping these 8 work beautifully for you! It's both a numbers and qualities game, so you could get in off your 8. I know people who've done just 3 or 4 (or even just 1) and gotten in, though that's not the norm. I was gonna do 5 or 6 because I simply couldn't afford to apply to more schools, but towards the end, I somehow found the energy and resources (thanks in part to app fee waivers) to push to 12. It definitely wasn't easy. Yeah, when I finished my 12 applications I thought that was too much until I heard from some other applicants. But I've also heard that 10-12 is the average number for most applicants, and what seems to be the sweet spot in terms of preparation vs spreading yourself out. If you have particular wants from a program, you're going to have to eliminate a number of schools from your list. Looking back, there are maybe a few schools I applied to that I realise now I'm not so keen on (after learning more about them). On the other hand, there are one or two schools I'd add to my list. As for beating yourself up about what you could have changed or improved in your applications, that's more or less a universal affliction. I refused to look at mine until a week or so ago when I wanted to submit part of my manuscript for a workshop thing and promptly found an annoying typo. I'm just rolling with it and refusing to let it make me any more anxious. There are no perfect applications. The results will ultimately tell us what direction to go. Hi! Welcome!! I haven't ever heard of Manhattanville, to be honest, but that's probably mostly because I'm not in the States. I checked their website out now and they seem interesting. Can't say why it's not a more popular program given that there's at least some potential for funding. Wishing you good luck in all your applications!

I know! I hope next week brings more news and movement, although the grapevine has it that news might still be slow until after the 10th of February, on account of AWP conference happening from February 7 - 10. So we still need to stay patient. Sending everyone strength and a bucket load of patience.
