  1. This is news I love to hear. So happy for you, branch! Congratulations on all the good things coming! And thank you for your wise and encouraging post.
  2. When did you receive the email? I have a problem with Iowa's general communication style. From having to snail mail your manuscript to their snail mailing rejections to applicants. It's such an obtuse, unnecessary, and inconvenient thing to do in this day and age. They've known for weeks now that they're not admitting some people. No emails, no portal updates, nothing. But we have to wait for their snail mails to travel around the world and get to us in our various little corners. And what if someone's mail gets lost or otherwise impossible to deliver?
  3. YAYYY!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. I can imagine! Wishing you all the best as you decide. I hope wherever you choose to go will be somewhere you feel nurtured and supported, somewhere both you and your writing will thrive. ❤️
  5. I'm so excited for you, @Mxxyr! This is the action/drama/intrigue I have been craving with MFA applications. You have a tough choice to make choosing between these elite programs, and I find myself almost thankful I don't have to be in such a conundrum (jk, I wish). Whichever you choose will make at least two other people absurdly happy (moving from the waitlist). Are you leaning towards any program yet or is it too early and too overwhelming?
  6. Be still my beating heart. Congratulations @Mxxyr!
  7. Is Discord connected to Meta?
  8. All Iowa fiction acceptances, I believe.
  9. Kudos to UVA for a timely, courteous, and altogether uncomplicated rejection email. I respect that.
  10. It's either a rejection or, if you're really, really fortunate, a waitlist. Iowa emails/snail mails both. We'll know for sure later this month.
  11. What genre are you? From what I can see on the Draft spreadsheet, fiction applicants reported interviews mid February and subsequently reported acceptances late February. If you were waitlisted but not interviewed, I don't think there's anything more for you to do except email the school with thanks and your strong desire to attend and any questions you have. Some schools interview only those they're immediately accepting and waitlist the remaining few they want. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Please take care of yourself as best as you can. ❤️
  12. Love that for you! I'm still in limbo...
  13. Not weird at all. I've drawn meaning from various signs and symbols throughout this period. Even dates and numbers have been significant to me. I don't remember exactly why now, but a few weeks ago I thought the number 7 would mean something good re my applications. In my optimism, I first thought I'd get in or be waitlisted in 7 places. When the rejections started coming, I thought it meant I'd get into the 7th school I applied to or the 7th in my personal tracking table (coincidentally both Vandy, one of my top choices). When that didn't happen, I began to think maybe it meant I'd be rejected in 7 places and have the rest be good news. That's not looking like it now. Anyway, the 7th school that got back to me directly happens to be NYU and it was an acceptance. No one said we had to be logical about this whole process. We're entitled to our feelings and fantasies, if nothing else. I still have other vibes and feelings I can't speak about yet.
  14. Congratulations to @ajcam, @writernity, @DanielNiver and everyone who's gotten good news lately. Damn, Daniel, you are on 🔥🔥🔥! Big hugs to you, @Saints_. I hope things look up soon and the rest of the year goes better for you. Keep your chin up. 🫂
  15. Irvine accepted you? HELL YEAH!
  16. LOL. Imagine we both get in there! That would be so cool!
  17. Thank you so much! I'll pm you when things get clearer in the coming weeks.
  18. I've heard they could offer more, especially towards April when some people begin to decline offers. It's also possible to leverage one's existing offers to negotiate. I don't plan to go without a full offer plus stipend. NYC is expensive and I'm not trying to struggle like that. Yeah, it's rough. No idea yet, but I know it's not cheap. Plus the cost of living there and the cost of moving. Not worth it for me. If I get an offer from one of my remaining schools I'll slam the door in their face pronto! But otherwise, I'd wait to see what changes.
  19. NYU's funding offer is shit, LOL. They're offering half tuition scholarship. Absolutely not! God, I hope this is not the only acceptance I get. 😭
  20. Congratulations, everyone, on your acceptances and waitlists. Big congratulations to you, @Scribe! I believe that person who got into NWP fiction and doesn't want to go also got into many other programs. That's point 1 for you. Another person on the waitlist got into Michigan and will probably go there. That's point 2 for you. So it's between you and the one or two? other people on the waitlist. I am rooting super big that you get in. Hoping someone else who's accepted also drops off, to make things easier.
  21. That's wonderful! Thank you on behalf of those waitlisted there. Someone's day is about to be made
  22. I wouldn't assume a soft rejection for Iowa or NWP fiction just yet. Iowa has been calling those admitted, yes; but assuming they're done calling (and we don't know that), they typically email waitlisted applicants in March. Based on last year's stats, there are waitlist movements, even in Iowa. As for NWP, all the news we've heard so far has been re poetry applicants. A poet who applied there can assume a rejection because acceptances and waitlists have gone out. But we've heard nothing for fiction. I expect we'll hear from them this week, though. Very well said. Important to keep this in mind because it's easy to lose focus and chase after hollow prizes. Everything is set up to make us complacent, complicit, or otherwise comfortable with the status quo. The playwriting program at Brown is a wholly separate program, so I wouldn't assume that the programs in the Literary Arts department (fiction, poetry, etc) would send notices at the same time. What we know is that Brown will notify in March. We have no choice but to be patient. As for Iowa and snail mails, I wish they would do away with everything concerning physical mails. It's stressful and distressing. I guess it's part of their whole prestige thing and they're unwilling to let it go.
  23. I'm still out of reactions, so thank you @AngusWanderer, @saramsarang and everyone! Angus, I love that we're meeting here first. If the funding package works out I'm going to be really happy. I'm an international applicant who's never been to the US so the idea of NYC lowkey/highkey scares me but I'm also cautiously optimistic/excited. @nataliezimm, @messindistress, @Hjanep, @bmac0927, and @Scribe, I know how you feel and I'm sending you every ounce of good luck for your remaining applications. This time yesterday I was at 7 straight Rs and no positive news at all, not even a waitlist. Yesterday evening, I allowed myself to start making concrete non-MFA plans for the year because it didn't look like anything better would turn up. And then the NYU email came; and even though it's still unclear I'll be able to attend until I learn more about funding, I feel gratified that somebody somewhere connected with my writing and it was not all a waste (no art or impassioned effort ever is, tbh). I'm deeply rooting for every one of you to get good news soon. I'm still waiting to hear from NWP, Iowa, Brown, and UVA (all fiction programs). I cannot wait to celebrate with you all. @Tuxedocat big congratulations to you!! I hope you get in. @_redrabbit7 Brown notifications will likely arrive by mid March. @justasmidge that's a great quote and great mindset. I know NYU schools tend to notify late, usually in March. I'm rooting for you to get wonderful offers. I'm so proud of us all and encouraged by everything we've put into this. It's not over yet.
  24. Congratulations! And welcome to the thread Same. I hope everything works out perfectly for us. Thank you!! And may it be so! Mine was for fiction but I've seen similar reports from poetry applicants. Can't say about CN.
  25. I know! Their faculty is awesome. Congratulations to you, too!!!!! Fingers crossed we both get full funding🤞🏾
