Hii! I'm a poet~ I'm not applying this year as I don't feel ready to take on an MFA yet nor do I think my application materials are strong enough yet to take on an MFA app!!! I am thinking of applying in a year or two, in the mean time I want to focus on strengthening my craft and practice through fellowships/residencies/workshops if I can.. but mainly at home practice!!! Recently, got into fiction writing/trying to get into fiction writing! My first fiction story just got accepted for publication as well so I'm quite excited to continue exploring fiction writing. Primarily, coming from a poetry and non-fiction background but have been challenging myself to write fiction.

Does anyone know if getting a 2nd Bachelor's looks bad on an MFA?

What are the key differences between UT Austin Michener Center VS New Writers Project? I am researching graduate programs at the moment and both of these programs caught my eye. From my understanding they both are held at UT, NWP is for Poetry/Fiction where as Michener is for Poetry, Fiction, Playwright, etc. Both are fully funded. Are there any other key differences?

does anyone know if brown or nyu do interviews for their poetry program? i have found conflicting info on forums vs the website / lack of info 😶‍🌫️😩 like for example— brown’s website says they do not offer interviews for candidates but I’m pretty saw i saw different/ conflicting info on gradcafe forums / gradcafe results page! just curious if anyone knows more info on this😖

i feel that!! i think it’s okay to give ourselves a break from productivity though!! we have all of our lives to “be productive” i think it’s okay for us to be kind to ourselves when our brains are not wanting to!! maybe it’s a time of rest :’) congrats on finishing your major!!!! lol i started watching the curse and bridgerton!!! !!!!!! lmao i felt that, i refresh gradcafe and my email constantly 😳

crying and sobbing and fighting for my life but in a chill unbothered way (narrator: they were not chill and unbothered) i'm not surprised by the rejection itself just more so surprised by the time frame I got it at!!! like BU really said.. hm we're going to make you sad EARLIER than you prepared yourself for lol like I was trying to prep myself for bad news for.. next month.. and the month after not like.. today/this week

(but its looking.. real LOL) If anyone can walk me through how to post screenshots of the email I received onto here-- I will! the email was sent from a bu email directly from the creative writing program!!! but the tldr is the email was like we can't offer you a spot, how 650 applicants applied and how there are only 8 openings for poetry and 10 for fiction, how they can't provide individual feedback because of the number of applicants received, uh and basically for this to not discourage me! and how I will be receiving a formal notice from the grad school in the following days. lmao maybe they just extra did not like my application and were like.. Uh immediate rejection lol
