    Census Poll

    great idea! thanks!
  2. well, if you look at the results section, it seems like Duke and Emory are doing invites this year for cultural anthropology.
  3. Peanut: have you heard from Oxford yet? I don't understand why a few of us haven't received the decisions via post yet. Unless, of course, they forgot to put "airmail" on the envelope
  4. Same here -- no word as of yet. I really don't understand why decisions are sent via post...
  5. someone posted in the results section that they received an email for an interview via skype for the phd in anthro at Emory. so we should be hearing from Brown soon?? any news from princeton, cornell, and washu?
  6. forum.studentdoctor.net subforum: master's in public health the 2011 app. thread is infinitely more active
  7. well, cultural is even worse than arch. it seems cultural anthro decisions take the longest...
  8. thanks for the reply! are you referring to the anthropology dept??? the anthro dept. hasn't sent out decisions yet? how do you know? geez -- my app has been there for over 1/3rd of a year already...

  10. Ah, the waiting game... I'm checking this website too often. Although I did not apply to Wheaton, did anyone get an invite on the 20th? Still waiting on Emory and BU.
  11. I wish you all the best! Keep us posted. Have you thought about doing a second bachelor's degree (this time in Archaeology) if you don't get accepted to a master's program?
  12. Does anyone know when WashU makes decisions for anthropology?
  13. congrats!!!! hopefully we'll find out officially soon
  14. oh ha ha. well, they need to update the site then, i suppose. with that info, I think you're right: It's just saving $ in this circumstance.
  15. I don't know anything about Harvard or Yale admissions as I didn't apply to these two schools. Now, I just went to the website, and the only thing i see is the following: Where does it say priority deadline? I know emory has a priority deadline, but does Harvard? I can't see it. This may explain why all decisions are made in March, and we don't see "rolling admissions" -- there's only one deadline.
  16. Priority Filing implies, more times than not, that the school does "rolling admission". Think of a hypothetical situation: 100 applicants apply for 20 seats by the priority filling status--roughly 5 people are competing for each seat. The committee then meets and decides that of the 100 applicants, they like / admit 14. Now, since it's pragmatically rolling admission, they will reconvene two weeks to a month later to decide the remaining 6 slots. Since the priority filling, 60 more people have applied; thus, there are roughly 10 people competing for each seat. If one would have applied before / by the priority filling status, he or she has an increased chance at gaining admission (5:1 as oppose to 10:1). That's the gist of rolling admissions, and it's the same way for medical school, law school, etc. Hope that helps.
  17. hmm...i'm not sure. they seem really efficient over there, though. also, leadership candler interviews are feb 27 - march 1, so i'm sure if we are one of the finalists, they will notify well before that.
  18. Candler School of Theology just sent out an email stating that the new priority deadline for MDiv applicants is Feb 1 due to the awful weather. Thank goodness! My scholarship material JUST got there today, I believe.
  19. thanks for the reply! i wonder if i'll know by post or email.... hmmm seems they do it numerous ways. did you apply for anthro last year?
  20. @aselfmadewinter: congrats!! at least you have a place to attend now
  21. i lived in wheaton until i went to college -- great school, lovely area. i love the stupe (or was it stoop?). so, to apply to the phd program at Wheaton, you have to have a master's first. what did you do for your master's?
  22. it's not necessarily bad we have not heard from Oxford yet. The deadline to make decisions for this batch is tomorrow. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
  23. all i can add is the following: academic archaeology is nothing at all like how movies or NY Times best sellers depict it as...take an arch sequence at your local uni. to see if it is really what you want to do.
