  1. Looking at Oxford's Graduate Prospectus, it indicates that decisions are sent only by post (snail mail, yuck!); however, looking at result pages here, individuals were notified by both post AND email. Which one is it? I applied for an m.phil. in anthro (social sciences), and the deadline for the dept. to make a decision is tomorrow. Should I expect a letter in the post or an email? if a letter, how long from England to America? thanks in advance!
  2. Emory is prompt! However, I found that information on the website. I'm sure the awful weather in Atlanta (Emory has been closed three days this week) will probably make the processing time a few days longer.
  3. has anyone heard back from Oxford for the m.phil. in social anthropology? i think they have till the 14th, at the latest, to make a decision...then they sound out decisions via snail mail
  4. I called Boston University, and they said they will send out decisions around the 1st week of March. Emory said they make decisions within two weeks of receiving an application, and since the priority deadline for the MDiv is Jan. 15, I'm guessing people will start hearing back (on OPUS) within two weeks?
  5. Congrats on the UMinn acceptances! I'm hoping this topic becomes as active as the 2010 application thread My guess is that more individuals will come back or "find" this website around end of January...*crosses fingers*
  6. sweet! are you applying to PhD programs? i see you have an MDiv from UTenn.
  7. sue 'em sounds like a dumb university to begin with
  8. i agree that getting into graduate school or not does not define the essence of my being and purpose in life. with that being said, a 3.5 GPA and 1300 GRE is not that competitive at the "top" departments for non-minority and non-female prospective applicants and, thus, something one may need to worry about. there are many factors that play a key role in acceptance: GRE scores, GPA, faculty fit, SoP, etc. I have a 1400+, perfect GPA, great letters of rec, a killer SoP, and I was rejected by all 9 programs last year. Of course, I'm doing things differently this year when I apply, but i know that my lower verbal score killed my chances at a few schools (some faculty told me this after i was rejected). Whatever, I suppose. Good luck to everyone.
  9. also, BU gives full scholarships + stipends to individuals based on academic merit, which makes it very attractive!
  10. i'm not interested in ordination. i like boston u because of the "new" mdiv where one can take all electives outside of divinity; for example, one can take his or her electives in public health, anthropology, philosophy, sociology, etc. i like emory because of the proximity to the medical school and the faith / healing and religion and society focus.
  11. The title says it all! Let's get this rolling! What program did you apply to and for what degree? When did you hear back and what was the result? What's your decision? etc etc Here's my information: Applied to: Boston University (Mdiv), Candler (Mdiv) Results: none yet. I look forward to hearing from other applicants!
  12. i got a 1400 on the gre last year. teaching experience. great recommendations. a perfect gpa. 0/9 for phd programs. :/
  13. i just received my ba in anthropology from UNM. which subdiscipline are you interested in? ethnology, archaeology, or evolutionary anthropology? it's a fun school, and new mexico is a great place to live and VERY cheap. i know the evo anthro is a bit more difficult to get into than the ethnology. pm if you have any questions. best, nm
  14. hello. thanks for the reply! i would love to do a phd, but i want to see if neuroscience is the "right" discipline for me. It's a MS program, not an BS/MS program. I will definitely email the department. thanks again! nm
  15. yes. i did this last year at an east coast school. i accepted, then deferred due to financial problems. ymmv.
  16. Hello, I have a question. I'm considering applying to the Brandeis' MS in Neuroscience for Fall 2011. Has anyone here done the program? If so, what did you do after your master's, and did you do it immediately (that is, the following year), or wait a year or two? Also, would it be rude if I asked the department what their graduate students do after the MS. I mean, it's only ONE year....a one year master's. Thanks in advance, nm
  17. I'm applying to M.Div programs that have an emphasis on social justice. I'm also applying to an M.Phil program in Social Anthropology in England, and a PhD program in Cultural Anthropology here in the States. Stats: BA in Anthropology and Pre-Medicine: 4.1 and 3.9, respectively. 620V, 780Q, 6.0A I TA'd three classes, and taught two psychology / philosophy of religion classes through my university's honors program as an undergraduate. Also, this is my first post @ the grad cafe. best, j
