  1. does anyone know how much does money does fulbright give?
  2. where do the majority of ETAs get placed universities or high schools?
  3. how does placement work? I hope they let me teach university students!
  4. There is still hope!!!!!!!!!!!!! I called the fulbright office today to ask them something and they informed me that they were just going to reach me (What a coincidence) They said that a ETA position might be opening up and since I am an alternat if I would be willing to do it. I was so excited! However, the manager said that the funding wasn't totally complete but she said there was a 75% chance (Good enough for me)..Do you guys think it will go through. I learned that the Fulbright office doesnt cal you unless its serious! She said she'll let me know by the middle of the week. Although it's not a research grant, I can still do independent research, my contacts would definately be up to this. Now I am on the waiting rollercoaster again, but Im trying not to be so excited since you never know. Let me know what you guys think about this, since I value your comments.
  5. sunbean8, I think that was my problem that my personal statement did not really address the "ambassador" side of me. Instead, I wrote about how have I conducted research with gang members, drug dealers, and other dangerous groups. Looking back on it, I should have tailored it towards the cross-cultural exchange. I do not think they are going to offer additional funding, since Albania usually funds 2, but this year they funded three. I doubt anyone will reject the grant, but if it happens it happens. I kind of wish they would have posted successful applications online and basically a rubric of what to include in the personal statement. I believe that I have tried my hardest, and considering I will be doing research and teaching most of my life, there is always time. I wish you the best and am grateful for your advice!
  6. Thank you for your advice. You do bring up some good points!
  7. For all those who are alternates and are wondering why they are alternates you could email the fulbright office abroad or the embassy and ask them. I emailed the Albanian embassy and they said that "your project was not in line with Post's priorities this year." However, me and my Fulbright advisor think that the reason why I got dinged was because my topic may be sensitive "Marital violence data via interviewing." I mean this is such an important topic, and I recieved TWO letters of affiliation from two highly regarded professors from two different universities saying that they would love to work with me and that this project is important considering marital violence rates are estimated at 30%. This project was definately feasible since I speak and write fluently. It bothers me to think that I could've really contributed something great but was rejected because of sensitivity issues. I would be angry if someone who proposed historical projects recieved the grant over me, considering this is an important contemporary issue that affects the lives of most women. Although, the public affairs officer wrote "We of course would consider you again next year should you choose to apply to Albania," I don't know how realistic that is since they rejected me for this proposal once, and I would not change it because they see it as politically incorrect. Any ideas on what I should do. Should I have professors write letters to the embassy and fulbright asking for additional funding?
  8. OD09, I bet my Bachelor's degree that you were called to be given an award, thats how certain I am. Why else would they call you? I hope for the best. Regarding my situation 22 students applied from my school 9 got in 9 are alternates and 4 were rejected.
  9. You will probably be given a grant since they decided to contact you. I read online somewhere that thats what happened to someone before, they got a phone call to call Fulbright and they offered them a full grant. Either that or perhaps a spot opened up somewhere else where they might be able to give you a grant. Good luck!
  10. I called Rachel today and she said I am the only alternate. There are three people who have been slected. Do you think I stand a chance?
  11. When additional funds become available are they for a region or for a specific country?
  12. Thanks for all of you who stood up for me. Forget Fulbrightest! Anyway, since there were 5 finalist and 3 principal candidates, what are the chances that my alternate status will be changed to principal? My letter (whats left of it) says AL-1. If I call the program manager do you think she would tell me my ranking? I read from previous posts that 1/3 of alternates get a spot, but I don't know if it's realistic for this small country.
  13. Nice!!! Don't fight everyone knows that fulbrightest is a prick... Its getting ugly in here!!!!! hahah
  14. Fulbrghtest, You can talk all you want but I still won't give a damn...I just speak my mind. I've offered very helpful advice over the past couple of weeks and now you feel you have right to judge me. Your judgements will be wrong because you don't know me and I defnately don't want to know you. I am proud that I am the first with a pair of balls who speak their minds about this bullshit! I am free, I got my answer from Fulbright. I'll email you my mailing address so you can mail me your harvard diploma when you get it. I need some good toilet paper! Go ahead quote me since you got nothing better to do! Have fun ya'll hahah
  15. You all need to relax because im not talking about entitlement but im just upset and talking out of my ass..we are to sopprt ech othe..so obviously when you see a post as usch you realize that someone is pissed off..but no some of you take it to a different level and try to turn into something that is not...smply understand that this may have been you or is you..the diffetence is that I have said my peace..so go about your life..but don't try to attack whatever BS I am saying..because obviously I am mad...so all you do me a favor and leave this alone...
  16. You all misunderstood me. What I mean is that certain countries especially albania love accepting people who have no knowledge of the country an do not contribute tp the greater knowledge such as marital violence..its ok..im going to shrug it off..and continue to learn and maybe apply 4 years from now...Albania missed from a great scholar, I would've really contributed to the country, but it just isn't isn't written in the stars..you all have to understand that im just talking to get rid of this bad taste in my mouth..its a reality for most alernatives so don't be too quick to judge because t might happen to you...these are my thought that I am entitled to..so long fulrbight board..good lcuk to the rest of you..make a diiference make it count for me!..good nite
  17. Im so pissed of...I got a letter to be an alternate..are they serious..I mean I have 2 recommendation from top professors from two universities in albani and I speak fluent..matter of fact my father wrote a highly publicized book on albanian grammar...I ripped the letter...im not second best...EVER...ugh Sorry im really mad, because this is BS
  18. I hope I hear something tomorrow (FRiday) because I really need to get on with my life and plan my next move. ITALIA, let me know if you hear anything because most likely they send them both together! Good luck to all of you and just remeber what someone once told me, "Get busy living or get busy dying"
  19. Because i couldnt meet the deadlines to the others, due to GRE testing. I was rejected because of my low GRE score (900)! Its a bummer but I mean thats life! Id rather publish some articles than study for that worthless test that doesnt measure anything. However, Fulbright could be my way out, gives me a chance to do some more research, and publish!
  20. I dont get jobs nowadays! they are looking for young college grads with experience. What expereince! My @$$ was stuck in the library 24/7 trying to write papers and research so I can land that good job. Now all my graduate dreams are flushed down the toilet and I am stuck with a 160K diploma that doesnt mean crap!
  21. just found out from the ONLY phd program that I applied to that I have been rejected! Fulbright can't let me down now! I NEED IT!!!!!!!!!!!!
  22. WHAT SIZE ARE THE ACCEPTANCE ENEVELOPES?
  23. we have to keep praying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 If it doesn't, I mean we're obviously smart because we wouldnt have made this far, so we can do other big things. Sometimes its just not meant to be!
  24. Hey Italy applicant where do you live? I live in NYC and I was thinking of calling them to go pick it up myseklf since I live only 7 miles away. I think that they mail them after 12PM. So it should be delayed by one day. I am expecting the mail to come Friday or Saturday. I hate this wait. I am so unlucky, because last year only 1 person applied to Albania, whereas this year 12 people applied. If we both get it that would be really nice, you could definately come visit in Albania, I'll host you. Maybe I could do the same? Fulbright Friendships are starting to bud!!!!!!! Good look paisan!
  25. last year albania had 1 applicant for 2 spots..the year that i apply there are 12... I was informed that there are 5 finalist for 2 spots. How does a multi country proposal work, because one of the applcant is a multi-country proposal. Lets say they apply to Albania and MAcedonia, do they grab both grants from the countries or do they get their own seperate grant, or like a special grant?
