  1. You probably shouldn't contact the school's admission office. You'd be better off contacting the individual department/director of graduate study.
  2. I liked this quote in the article: "The faculty is here by choice, he added, and could go elsewhere." We all know how WONDERFUL the job market is for English Ph.D.s.
  3. Linden---Florida is just a better place to live...more to do and stuff.
  4. For everyone that's waiting for UMass, I received a waitlist e-mail today from them. There are about 45 names on the e-mail, yet they still called the list "very short." They need to see how many more TAships they can get before offering admission. Don't e-mail the secretary to ask where your're placed or how many people from last year's waitlist were admitted. She doesn't know. You need to contact the director....but UMass is on spring break right now, so he won't be back in the office until next week. I doubt that he'd have the waitlist at home.
  5. I'm sure it varies with each school, but I'd think that they still have some spots open. After the second round, you would either be accepted, rejected, or waitlisted.
  6. I'd go with Purdue simply because of the name/reputation of the school. If it were a Ph.D. program where I'd have to live in the area for 5-6 years, I would, however, choose Florida.
  7. It means that they picked out their top applicants from the applicant pool and offered them admission. The committee will review applications again and offer more students admission.
  8. It just means they are still reviewing your application. It doesn't even mean that you are waitlisted.
  9. Cdehn, you might be waitlisted. Maybe you should e-mail the department secretary or DGS.
  10. I'm still waiting on Temple and UMass. I should hopefully hear something this week.
  11. I'm still waiting on Temple and UMass. :-(
  12. Well, you don't have to tell the Ph.D. that you accepted the other offer.
  13. Contact the department directly to see what's going on with your funding.
  14. I'd say UCLA or Rutgers. The area around Rutgers isn't great (I'm from NJ), but it's close to both Philly and NYC.
  15. Oh, ok. Well, I'd probably go with the Ph.D. program.
  16. Say what?
  17. Yeah, they could still be reviewing applications or you could be on a wait list.
  18. You can also try http://www.applycorner.com
  19. No news is good news. Acceptances can be sent out in waves at different times...look at the results section and see if people got accepted on various dates in 2006.
  20. Rowan University (in Glassboro, NJ about 20 minutes from Philly) offers French courses in the summer. The courses are centered around "French in Action," which is really a horrible way to teach new students; however, it is GREAT for people looking to brush up their skills. http://www.rowan.edu
  21. Yes, departments do accept students via snail mail.
  22. Hilarie, I'm sure you'll hear by Tuesday at the latest; I think they mailed out all of the acceptances/rejections at the same time.
  23. Yeah!! I was screaming when I opened the envelope!
  24. Each school is different. I got my acceptance through snail mail!
  25. No, that's what U Washington told me, and I got in!
