  1. Sorry to hear about the ding - if you choose to reapply next year, I'm sure you'll know the whole process inside and out and it will be much easier as a result.
  2. I don't have any special insight, but you might find it helpful to look at the results from years past. I'm sure the % of candidates accepted off the wait list varies from year to year depending on yield, but it certainly seems like (last year) they ended up accepting a fair number of waitlisters - and they did so in through May. My impression is that some accepted students end up turning down the SIPA offer due to cost and competing offers. Admissions will have a much better sense of how many to accept off the wait list once decisions for other schools come out and prospective students pay their deposit. As far as submitting updates and additional info - I have no idea.
  3. Based on last year's thread there is definitely a chance of getting in off the wait list - a reason for optimism.
  4. I finally broke down and called (I'm weak). The person answering the phone didn't have any specifics, but she did say not to expect anything until next week. Oh well - guess hearing something this week was too optimistic after all.
  5. I wonder how long it will be before I stop immediately associating words like "pugnacious" with the GRE vocab list?
  6. Got it, thanks. This process as driven me to the point where I read "mid-March" and hope that means March 9.
  7. I'm still not sure where you're seeing 3/15 for SAIS.
  8. Hm - just noticed that the admitted students day at SIPA is Tuesday 4/12. At SAIS it's Wednesday 4/13 (according to the "your application is complete email" they sent mid January.
  9. Georgetown is definitely next week on 3/15 - whole shebang. But I don't think we have anything concrete for SAIS. I do believe they release all the MA decisions at once (unless you applied though the Bologna Center) - but we don't know what day it will be yet. Last year it was 3/15.
  10. I have no idea. There was at least one essay-based fellowship that covered full tuition (deadline was back in February I think). Receiving full funding for one or both years fully funded is probably relatively rare, but I don't have any statistics to back that up. Right now I'm in the process of trying to talk myself out of calling the admissions office to ask when they expect to release decisions. I know they are busy - but it would be nice to have a hard deadline to look forward too.
  11. I didn't know about the results part of the gradcafe site until quite recently. But this is probably your best source for up to date info about decisions. Alternatively, you can navigate there by selecting "results" in the toolbar at the top of the page and narrowing down the results for SIPA.
  12. On another message board, an applicant tried this without much luck. I don't think it ever hurts to ask though.
  13. I wouldn't recommend it, based on what I've read it doesn't seem like they are in a position to answer questions about specific timelines right now. I bet you'll hear in the next week or so. I know it's hard!
  14. I ran out of time to apply to the IFP program. Frankly, at the time another essay seemed insurmountable. But during my research in January I noticed the IFP website mentioned that current students (university-wide) could apply (during the fall semester maybe?). That makes me think that there is a chance people won't hear about the IFP application until later. This is all speculation though, I really have no idea. I'd be interested to know if you hear back Abogs78. Thanks!
  15. In the interest of keeping things simple, you may want to put discussion of SIPA (Fall 2011)
  16. I do remember hearing somewhere (last year's thread?) that in the past, many of those receiving $$ didn't get notification in the first wave of emails. So I think there is some reason to be optimistic if you're holding out for funding. But keep in mind, the remaining 35% won't all be admits.
  17. Insight is always welcome! Glad to have you as a resource. For everyone else waiting - don't worry. I'll still be right there with you updating screens every five seconds/minutes from now until March 24. A watched pot is quick to boil, right?
  18. Oh my gosh - I'm in. No funding, but I'm in. Wow. This is the first program I've heard back from. Crazy.
  19. BLOG UPDATE They are going to start releasing tonight after all! deep breathes everyone!
  20. Probably the Apply Yourself website - the same site you submitted your application through.
  21. Actually I take back what I said earlier. Last year there was a blog post the day after they started releasing decisions - so maybe the blog isn't the best place to go for the most up to date info. I really need to get some real work done.
  22. Astra2011 - thanks, I was also curious about the source. According to last year's threads, SAIS decisions went out on 3/20. Georgetown SFS went out on 3/15, and SIPA started releasing during the first week of March. Just a guess, but I bet we'll start to hear from SIPA this week. It would be nice to know what the notification date will be this year for SAIS. If anyone hears anything concrete I'll add it to the little chart that I've hung in my cube right above my computer screen. Yes, this is pretty much all I think about.
  23. I'm under the impression admissions will post something on the blog about decisions going out before they start notifying - or maybe the same day they start notifications. Oh the suspense!
  24. I'm waiting to hear as well. Hopefully we'll see some movement today. Based on last year's thread - it seems like the people who did receive funding didn't hear until later in the process (later in March), so I'm not sure what to hope for. Of the other schools I applied to, the earliest I'll hear back is on 3/15 - so potentially SIPA could be my first up or down if I hear from them in the next week or so. Oh the nerves!
  25. I agree. SAIS's thinking on this defies explanation - each of the other 5 schools I'm applying to have made it very clear exactly when the app needs to be submitted. I imagine this would cause even greater problems for international students in substantially different time zones. Big thanks to NehAgg for the information and willingness to help.
