  1. Honestly, I bet it's a fake since there's been this whole long thread and they claimed they got it so long ago. But if anyone wants to claim it, that's awesome and congratulations!
  2. Darn! Well, it was worth a shot. Thanks!
  3. OK, here's my hypothesis: the people who already have Master's received that email, and the people who don't didn't. Or maybe those who said they were going to pursue an MA on their application (and then continue onto a PhD), as I did, did not receive the email, and those who indicated otherwise did. Let me know if you are in one of those groups and either of these guesses does not hold true for you.
  4. I got in too. 20th c. American poetry; with a focus on humorous poets in the latter half of that century. And yes, I am going to attend the open house. I live in Brooklyn, so it's an easy trip.
  5. I'm sure I'm not the only one who could use a little help on this front. So far, my anti-crazy efforts have included reading books I doubt I will have time to read if I get in somewhere (e.g. all of Dashiell Hammet's books, the Lord of the Rings trilogy and the Hobbit, the Idiot, etc). I'm also trying not to check message boards/results boards/etc except while at my boring 9-5 job. Any other suggestions?
  6. I just thoroughly searched my email, and I have not received it either. I'm hoping this doesn't mean that they don't have our names on an email list or are not considering our applications for the correct program. I think this waiting period has made me more paranoid than I had ever imagined possible. Thank god it will be over soon(ish).
  7. Oh, I've applied for Lit and never got that email, so I guess Lit may be on a different time line. (if anyone applied to Lit and received an email like the one described, please feel free to prove me wrong.) Thanks!
  8. The 14th? Where did you hear that? Yikes! I'm also really excited about Madison. (20th c. American Poetry)
  9. Thanks for clarifying! I considered the possibility that it might be spam, but decided it wasn't because it wasn't funny. Who spams a graduate school results board, anyways?
  10. Just saw an acceptance from Harvard on the results board, but then the comment had something about Howard Stern, which made me a bit confused. Can someone confirm/ explain how and why Howard Stern got involved in their acceptance to Harvard?
  11. This is a really ridiculous thing to know, but if you have Gmail and download the Google Talk program, a notification box will pop up THE SECOND you get an email.
  12. Hi all, I applied to: Columbia CUNY NYU Stanford UC Berkeley UChicago UPenn WUSTL Rutgers University of Wisconsin-Madison Harvard Brown Yale All English PhD; 20th c. American poetry.
  13. I just called them today because the website indicated that my transcripts had not been received either, and the person I spoke to didn't check, saying that it probably wasn't an issue and they would contact me if my application was incomplete. He also said that so long as I had uploaded an unofficial version to my application (which I believe I did), it wouldn't effect anything about the admissions decision, including the speed with which the decision gets made. So if it's just your transcript, I wouldn't stress out.
  14. I got an email at one point explaining that they were missing my writing sample, so if you haven't gotten anything yet I don't think it's a bad thing. I just posted a similar question on the other message board, but I suppose it's more appropriate on this one: Are interviews a normal thing? My understanding was that English programs just didn't do them, at all. Am I totally misinformed?
  15. I received a rejection e-mail too... I can't believe this is happening so soon. It's still January! Also, I had no idea that anywhere would do interviews. Can anyone explain to me if that's a normal practice?
