  1. I've heard nothing from them either.

Pretty much all of the big banks are in Atlanta. Bank of America is a big one down there. There is BOND which is another community credit union if you want to avoid the big banks. I had Fifth Third when I lived there and they were hard to come by. I know they've expanded their branches in the metro area more recently though.
  3. Waitlisted by UC Davis today. I've already committed elsewhere and had honestly assumed I was going to get a rejection since I hadn't heard anything until now. It's nice to know I at least made the wait list though. If anyone is waiting on UC Davis I'll be telling them to take me off the wait list to make sure no one does any more waiting than they have to
  4. I havent heard anything from them yet. Since I already accepted at Arizona I kind of stopped thinking about the other two schools I still havent heard from. I kind of assumed that I wasn't on the short list since I hadn't heard anything by now. Especially since the person I was looking to work with is on long term leave and wont be around. Oh well, no worries. Hopefully they are speedy in the process regardless of whether or not I'm waiting for them. I know everyone else is tired of stressing about figuring these things out!

    Tucson, AZ

I visited Tucson a couple of weeks ago for recruitment weekend and these were some of the same questions I had. Current students said the buses were ok, but not great in terms of coverage. I don't recall if I was told how late they run but I'm assuming they stop earlier than in a bigger city. I do remember hearing that there are some specific U of A shuttles as well that go on specified routes. Apartments seem pretty variable depending on your standard of living / how much you want to spend. The current student I spent the most time with while there was paying $425 for a pretty decent one bedroom in a complex. I've seen them lower than that but you sacrifice certain niceties and I've also seen them go much higher. I'd wager that $450-600 is a workable range. Hopefully that helps.
  6. Somewhat unrelated, but I got waitlisted for funding at UT Austin which was somewhat unexpected since they accepted me so quickly once they found out I had other offers. I was told I wouldn't be notified until April about funding and while waiting to hear something from them decided Arizona was a better decision since it was my top choice anyway. Once I turned down Austin I received an email from their department telling me that they were "just about to make me a funding offer". Oh well. Waiting is atrocious, stay strong!
  7. Received my Northwestern rejection the other day. Personal email from POI telling me that they were super tight on admissions this cycle, especially in Linguistic Anthropology. She was king enough to tell me that the admissions committee was genuinely impressed with my work, just didn't think I was the best fit. Congrats to everyone accepted!
  8. This discussion is comical/bordering on absurd.
  9. I've also been waiting on Northwestern and haven't heard a peep from them thus far. So whooooo knows.
  10. I'm sure this is an issue for many applicants, including myself, and as someone else has said there are a number of other variables that go into the equation. For me, I'm more concerned with my fit with the program and how well I see myself working in the department(s) that I'd be a part of. That being said money is an issue. My current dilemma is that my top choice has accepted me and plainly told me that they want me there, but that they can't put out any kind of funding offer for any of their prospective students until mid summer. This is obviously much later than most other programs and it's also well after the accept/decline deadline for me to make a decision. So I am faced with going into a program I know I fit well with, but unsure on funding. All that being said, I would personally take a program with less funding and a better fit. If there's no funding, that's a different story, but I'd take a smaller stipend for the chance to be happier in a department as long as I still thought I could live on it.
  11. Yayyyyyy!

  13. I believe it's technically part of both departments, but is probably predominantly housed in Linguistics. I applied directly to Linguistics, but my application had to be vetted by both departments before any admissions decisions were made. I got an email a couple weeks ago on the Linguistics end saying they had admitted me, I was just waiting on the Anthro side to confirm it. Here's a blurb about the program: http://linguistics.arizona.edu/content/joint-phd-anthropology-linguistics-also-known-anli-degree
  14. Following up the Michigan rejection with another, more offiicial email from Arizona saying that I had been recommended by the Anthropology and Linguistics departments for admission into their Dual PhD program. It aint all bad.
  15. Just as an FYI, I got an email tonight from Arizona saying that I had been recommended for admission for the dual Anth/Ling phd program. So I'd assume other notices should be going out soon.
  16. Finally got that Michigan rejection that I knew was coming. Now I just need to wait for the Chicago rejection...let's do this.
  17. Hey all, I have some additional unofficial information to add. I'm an applicant to the Dual ANLI (Anthro & Ling) PhD program at Arizona. I was contacted about a week and a half - two weeks ago by the Linguistics department and told me that my admission to the dual program was very likely and I was invited to the Linguistics dept recruitment weekend. I was told that the Anthropology admissions committee hadn't had their final meeting yet, and my POI in Linguistics didn't know exactly when they would be having it. She could only tell me that Anthro did it considerably later than Lingusitics. So getting notified in March seems like a plausible scenario. In regards to an admitted students weekend: my POI in Linguistics said that the Anthro dept there doesn't have a formal recruitment weekend but that they allowed prospective students to come visit, essentially whenever they were able to schedule a time. I was being contacted because I would be in both departments and they wanted me to come to the Linguistics weekend if I could make it and visit Anthro on the side while I was there. I'm going to Tucson on Thursday for the Linguistics dept weekend so if I am able to get any information about the Anthro department while I'm there I'll try to pass it along.

    Tucson, AZ

Bumping this because it looks like I may be moving to Tucson this coming August. Among my many questions are what the good coffee shops are in the city? Any thoughts?
  19. Has anyone heard much of anything from the Northwestern program yet? I saw a couple of interviews pop up on the results page but just curious if anyone can offer more info...
  20. I also didn't get in. Had high hopes but the previous post said it best, only slightly less competitive than a PhD. I'll give it another whack in 2015. Chicago is more fun than Ann Arbor anyway
