  1. Let's do a cost benefit analysis: 1. Cost of travel and accommodations from Europe to Duke... I dunno, like $2,000? 2. Potential upside of getting into top choice school? $20k/yr stipend + $10k/year free tuition + $5k misc X 5 years = $175,000 3. Peace of mind from knowing you interviewed in the best possible way: Priceless? No brainer for me, just go. This is your future. Time and money are of little to no consequence.
  2. Pssh, you should be able to handle it. I'm sure they'll have a panacea at the Stanford interviews to help mollify you
  3. I also applied to Stanford but didn't receive an interview e-mail. So to comfort myself I laid out 3 different scenarios: 1. Those with incredible applications weren't even contacted for an interview because they were already put on a list of acceptances. 2. Interviews or the application process goes out in waves and thus not everyone was contacted. 3. Stanford received a large pool of applicants with similar subfields; only those of that subfield were contacted to be interviewed to be narrowed down. I'm sure other grad programs have done things similar to this in the past--anyone think of any more (positive) scenarios so we can hold on to (maybe false) hope a bit longer?
  4. Hi all, Just thought I'd drop in to say that I heard today from my former UW professor that University of Washington started their English graduate admission process only yesterday. I didn't apply there, but thought those of you who did would appreciate an update.
