  1. April 12, 1:55 am EST Always a little later than expected. That'll give me time to obsess, forget about it, and be pleasantly surprised.
  2. I decided last night between the four schools I was considering. After my first visit three weeks ago to the school I was 95% sure I was going to go to, I've decided on the school that was third on my list a few weeks ago. My decision, while very thought out, now seems so abrupt. Anyone else feeling shell-shocked after deciding all of a sudden? I'd expected to be milling for a few more weeks.
  3. After visit number 3, I love all 3 schools. Now what?

  4. A professor I was talking to this past weekend at a visit weekend said that the programs that rejected you will send apologetic letters offering admission if you receive one of those fellowships. Even if they don't, I think it is definitely worth asking if you are awarded a fellowship.
  5. I've got a Kindle 3 with 3G, and I really like it so far. I've been reading mostly books, which is really nice because as soon as I finish a book I can download another. When it comes to pdfs, the conversion from amazon works really well for people who mainly read the intro, discussion, and conclusion sections (aka the sections without equations). For the papers with theory sections that I need to read, I don't convert them, I just read in landscape mode. I've been visiting grad schools, and its been nice having the papers from the professors that I talk to available on my kindle. The kindle's new page number feature is really handy.
  6. Hopkins has a Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering Department and a Biomedical Engineering Department. They are completely separate and there is not much overlap between the two. That being said, there is some really great bio research going on in the ChemBE department that may match your interests well. Both schools are big name schools, and in terms of ranking as a whole JHU is higher than Michigan. I feel like your job prospects would be similar from each school, unless you are planning on applying to Chemical engineering at Michigan and Biomedical engineering at Hopkins, in which case I'm not sure what the job prospects are like for biomedical engineering. Good luck making your decision! Both are great schools for engineering.
  7. I totally did this for undergrad. I went a little over the top though. I had 23 categories that I had ranked in order of importance, then ranked my three top schools 1, 2, 3 in each category. I multiplied the category weight by the rank and normalized by the total number of weighted points (Sum i from 1-23, 275 in my case) and then took the sum of the scores. I went to the school that won using this method. Ex: A B C Cost 2 3 1 Campus 2 1 3 Research 1 2 3 It worked out pretty well in the end- I love my university.
  8. I know you were discussing this a few weeks ago so it may be too late, but hopefully this will still be helpful. i have four acceptances right now, and 4 recruiting trips planned. One is next weekend, two the weekend after that, and one the third weekend. I emailed two of the schools, and am postponing until other weekends in March. When I emailed, stating that I already had a trip planned for that weekend, both schools were perfectly happy inviting me the weekend that I asked for, including airfare. Its definitely worth asking if you can visit another weekend. Most likely, other students will be visiting late as well. Good luck and have fun visiting schools!
  9. Me too! Love KKG Last active semester. Hopefully I can get involved with the Alumni Association wherever I end up.
  10. I heard back from UIUC only a few days ago- I'm visiting on March 4. Not all their acceptances went out at once.
  11. I'll be visiting Texas as well- see you there. I haven't heard back from anywhere else. Still waiting. Then again, the deadlines for my applications was only four days ago, so I can't complain yet.
