  1. Yes, I know that. I contacted the program director before I applied. Well, I thought I had good chances...
  2. Thanks for being positive, but their website says: Have a telephone interview with a program faculty (after submitting the application, those candidates who pass the first round of selection will be interviewed at the request of the program)
  3. I did not have any interviews. I assume this is a rejection... It was my dream school!!!! So sad...
  4. You can also block their e-mail address.
  5. Wardword, that's tough! That's why I did not give ETS the permission to use my scores.
  6. Does anyone know why University of Michigan is not sending rejections? I guess all the interview intives have been already sent out...
  7. Anyone heard anything from Georgetown sociolinguistics? hoviariel, what is done is already done Don't worry-I am sure you will get accepted soon!
  8. Something tells me if we don't get interview invites, we will be rejected.... Here is the info from UMich's website: Q: When does UM Linguistics hold the recruitment weekend? A: The Recruitment weekend usually takes in late February, although specific dates may vary from year to year. Candidates are included by invitation only. Activities begin early in the morning on Thursday and run through the evening on Friday. Therefore, travel for invited candidates is normally arranged for Wednesday and Saturday.
  9. There are two notices on the result page. I did not get anything. I assume I got rejected...
  10. Me neither Let's keep waiting....This is my dream school! I really hope I will be accepted.
  11. Hi! I applied to MSU, PhD SLS program. I don't think you should worry much about the deadlines. I have a feeling that if you submitted your online application by the deadline, everything should be fine. I was also worried about this, because I submitted my TOEFL, GRE scores and transcripts long before I submitted my online aoolication. It took them some time to match those with my app. So now it's under review.
  12. Hi! Has anyone applied to MSU PhD Second Language Studies or Carnegie Mellon PhD Second Language Acquisition programs?
  13. I know it might be too early, but has anyone heard anything from any school?
  14. Yep, super nervous! I hope to submit everything by the end of December
  15. Hey Vickysophie! I am glad there is someone here who is interested in language and identity! I am also applying to Georgetown and university of Michigan. Where are you from?
  16. Ready for a new application season!

  17. Hey guys! I need your advice. My question is how specific about my research interests should I be in my SOP? I'm interested in discourse analysis and have done some research pertaining to national identity construction in presidential speeches of American Presidents. Should I just mention that I am interested in discourse analysis or be as specific as possible?
  18. Hi everyone! I'm from Russia and I am applying for Fall 2014. Any suggestions on PhD programs that focus on discourse analysis?
  19. I was admitted by Boulder MA TESL program two years ago. They don't fund MA students. Now I'm studying at NAU, MA TESL program. They offered me full funding. It's a good program and they don't require GRE scoes.
  20. Hi! I'm also international. Why don't you try to get into master's program first? At some point, personally I realized that I don't have enough experience or background to pursue any PhD program and got into a wonderful MA program first to see whether I am able to study at the graduate level. Besides, MA is also a degree and it's not that bad. To get into ANY PhD program for an international student is extremely difficult, especially if English is not your native language.
  21. I know only a few MA TESL programs that offer full funding (teaching assistantship). These are the programs I was admitted by and offered a TA (full tuition remission + stipend): Northern Arizona University Central Michigan University Minnesota State University, Mankato
  22. Can't wait to start my master's degree studies! I'm really looking forward to my new life in Arizona this fall. For me, it doesn't really matter where to get MA from. Besides, I'm international and do not know much about prestige of some programs. I think that TESOL programs are pretty much the same everywhere. Can I PM you? I have some questions about the state of Arizona and thought it would be nice if someone could help me
  23. I totally agree with you. The program is just amazing! Besides, Kira Hall is there. I admire her and what she is doing. I had the same situation last year. Got accepted without any funding. The office of admission asked me to show the proof of 44000$ on my bank account....I defered my studies until 2012. However, I didn't manage to make that much (it's a bit difficult for international students coming from developing countries). I applied to the programs this fall and got admitted into NAU (MA applied linguistics program). They offered me a TA position. So, that's how I switched from Colorado to Arizona
