  1. Hi! I'll be attending Northern Arizona University (Applied Linguistics, MA). Last year I was accepted by Colorado, Boulder, but without any financial support. I'm glad that NAU offered me a teaching assistantship (full tuition remission and a stipend). I applied to 5 US Universities all in all, got admitted by three of them. Two other decisions are still pending (I'm waitlisted by Miami University, OH, MA Rhetoric and Composition; West Virginia, MA Linguistics is just ignoring my e-mails...) Happy that this application season was successful for me. Since I'm international, I find it really stressful and complicated....
  2. Don't worry. As far as I'm concerned, they initially offer admission to Americans, then to international students.
  3. Is someone waitlisted at Miami Ohio, MA Rhetoric and Composition?
  4. :) -10 or -5 C is almost summer for me! As for the summer temperature, I expected it to be quite high. Anyways, I can't wait to start studying there! I'm sure I'll like Flagstaff!
  5. What's the temperature in the winter and in the summer like? Since I'm from Siberia, I guess nothing can be colder than -37 C.... Damn! Now I will have to get used to Fahreinheit!
  6. I'm absolutely happy! Don't need any other offers!

  8. Hi everybody! I got into NAU, MA TESL program. This is my top choice and I will definitely be attending NAU. I was awarded a teaching assistantship which includes full tuition remission and a stipend. And in my letter of appointment it is stated that "a tuition remission will cover 100% of your tuition cost whether you are in-state or out-of-state student". However, on the website of NAU it is said that "if you are an international graduate student and you have been awarded a TA, a tuition remission will cover out-of-state portion of tuition costs". Does anyone know any details on that?
  9. Hi! I will also attend NAU in Fall 2012! I'm an international student. Can you please give me some information about housing? Cost/location?
  10. Still in this stupid waiting game!

  11. Russian and English. I'm a native Russian speaker
  12. Really? I applied to Mankato too. Still waiting on their decision.
  13. Anyone who applied to MA Rhetoric and Composition? Any news?
  14. I was just wondering if anyone is applying to MA TESOL programs this year?
  15. @ those who applied to Boulder. I got my admission decison on the 22nd of March last year. So, be patient. I was admitted to an unfunded MA program, although I applied to PhD program. The first line was "Your application to the graduate program in the Department of Linguistics could not be considered for the Ph.D. because you do not meet the prerequisites for admission". It was kinda painful, since I really wanted to get into PhD program....However, it was the only school I applied to.
  16. Hi everyone! I applied to Miami University Ohio (MA rhetoric/composition). Haven't heard anything from them yet....
  17. lagarconne, Thanks! I contacted the Department of Linguistics, but the situation with TAships is not really promising there. I contacted the Office of Financial Aid, but got the answer that I am not eligible for the federal aid. Now I contacted the Department of Germanic and Slavic languages to find out anything about TAships there. I am a native speaker of Russian. I liked Germany! I liked the USA. Are you currently studying in Heilderberg? Would you mind talking to me via Skype? I love meeting new people!
  18. Don't be disappointed! I am sure you will find your graduate school! Boulder is a great school, but it is not the only one. My TOEFL was 90. GPA 3.9 Bachelor's degree in Linguistics (methods of teaching English and German) No GRE scores since the program did not require them Research interests: In sociolinguistics (Language and identity) Political Discourse Analysis (Russian national identity construction in New Year Presidential Addresses to the nation) Cognitive Linguistics (English Language means of representation of the concept of pain) A bit of teaching experience (school practicum) 6 months of living in Germany, 2 visits to the USA as an exchange student. Yeah...Funding is essential if you are an international student. I cannot pay for my education in the USA and I hoped to get any type of financial assistance. In my home country I did not pay at all while I was an undergraduate student. We will see. Maybe I will figure something out with funding....
  19. lagarconne, are you accepted? I got my acceptance yesterday. Nothing is said about funding. I really want to go to Boulder, but do not have money....Really sad.
  20. Why don't you send them an e-mail, asking when the decisions are gonna be made? I did the same with University of Colorado at Boulder and got the answer that all the decisions will be made by the end of March.
  21. Is there anyone who still did not get any information on acceptance/rejection from a graduate school?
  22. Hi! The latest news I got from their department was the following e-mail: "All applications are being evaluated and considered by the Graduate Admissions Committee throughout March. An admissions decision should be made by the end of March". I am also hoping and waiting, because this is the only school I applied....
  23. Do you mean to say that if you were not invited to their open house, it means rejection? What if I am an international applicant and would not have an opportunity to visit them? I think that they realize that not every potential applicant can come to their open house. Personally, I think that no invitation does not mean rejection.
