  1. RobStewart - her email is wendyf@soc.ucla.edu Good luck! I hope I get an email this week saying that I am off the waitlist
  2. Hey! Splitends, thanks a lot for the info. Hopefully I get your spot haha! Anyway good luck and congratulations for your admission. SocHope, I emailed the grad coordinator to ask about the status of my application. She said the waitlist was "extremely short". Good luck all!
  3. Hey all, Since UCLA did not have its own topic I figured I would do one here. Who is admitted and who thinks of attending? I am on a short waitlist there, and it's my top choice. Needless to say, if somebody does not want to attend, please give me your spot . Otherwise it would be great to share info on the cohort, funding, POIs, etc. I am especially interested in info about the quality of life on a grad student budget in a city like LA. Any thoughts?
  4. Yep I got in touch with her. I was also told that decisions for international students might come a bit later due to the need to figure out a decent funding package.
  5. UCLA decisions will be known at the end of the month, according to their program coordinator.
  6. It's not too late. I would even say it is the perfect time. The way I do it now is contacting potential supervisors (and it feels pretty weird to see "Re: about supervision" from one of your intellectual hero in your inbox) to ask them if they still take students in your area of interest. Research agendas change and you better make sure that all this information you have researched is just not a waste of time and money (ie there is no point in applying if you know you POI is now doing something else). I am much more skeptical about the benefits for your application about contacting POIs, I do not see them sponsoring your app or anything. The main benefit of getting in touch is to know if they are still doing what you think (and hope) they are doing.
  7. Thanks a lot for your explanation! We will see how it goes. When can I see my score? End of the month? I just hope they understand that my verbal score is not top notched since English is not my first language. Hopefully my AW is okay, I do not want to resit the whole thing.
  8. Thanks a lot! I just read a bit through the topic and what freaks me out is that some estimates are wrong.
  9. Hey all, I took the test yesterday and got some estimates based on the old scale. Could someone give me an idea of what the actual scores are going to be for me on the new scales? Because I have an impression that most, if not all of the time, the actual scores turn out to be on the lower end of the estimate. I got: V: 640-740. Q: 690-790. What would that most likely be on the new scale for all GRE experts here? Thanks a lot
  10. So if I understand things correctly, those applying to the terminal MA are not eligible for funding? But those who do the MA as part of the Ph.D program are funded? Because I thought I might apply to a master's first to strengthen my applications for Ph.D, but I need funding...
  11. This is great advice. There is something wrong out there in your applications...Your stats are stellar, you said you had fit. It must recs I guess, even though it seems weird.
  12. I can't believe you did not get in anywhere with such a profile...But what is your motivation for transferring elsewhere? Your ivy is not good enough? So sorry about that, keep strong!
  13. haha he is a pretty awesome guy, you will like him if you actually go to McGill!
  14. Congrats! Who are your POI?
  15. That is some really excellent advice and I deeply appreciate. Cheers faculty
  16. Are you already in a Ph.D program? Thanks for the advice...Everyone here seems to have published and so on, it is pretty frightening.
  17. Yes it does! Thanks a lot.
  18. Well given the quality of the schools you are applying to, and the fact that I am intending to apply to many of these too next Fall, would you mind sharing a bit about your profile? Cheers and congrats for your acceptances
  19. Same question for the numbers! That'd be pretty sweet, whether you are accepted or not. Also, any relevant experience? Cheers
  20. What type of university are you coming from? (just to weigh the GPA)
  21. Congrats to all accepted! Can the people accepted to UNC say a bit more about their profile? I am prospecting right now and UNC CH might be one of my top choices...
  22. Unrelated response but you can PM me if you want some first hand info about the faculty at McGill, I am a student in the department.
  23. Wow, not bad! All this as a grad student I hope? I am undergrad and have pretty much nothing yet...
