Haha I can totally understand this My parents were surprised I didn't apply to harvard and to cmu instead and they were like: what is cmu? Why don't you do your phd in your home country instead of an unknown uni and I was like you're crazy!! But on the other hand I can't blame them since they're not in the academic world and I'm not from the us

I probably accept the PhD position in my home country which they offered me when I asked for recommendation letters :-) Maybe propose to my girlfriend the year after that instead of breaking up when I would do a PhD here :-D

These are all especially very hateful to say when somebody has been rejected by their preferred school. I'll probably start crying if that happens and somebody dumps the third line in my face...

Face it,... you get a reject and friending you just means "I'm sorry dude but it is probably for the best if we stay friends than continu as lovers..." J/k, it is a pretty weird situation, I don't know what to think of it. I would consider it as a positive thing but probably send them a message like whatsup and why are you friending me....??

I don't think that my response will be very private, no matter where I am or with whom either I'll start dancing or crying. It is not like my phone beepz and I'm like "Hey MIT sent me an email about my application, but wait I'm in a store now so I'll wait with opening the email so I can have a private response" ;-)

Fast, and when I say fast I mean lightning fast! Like NOOOOOW!! I feel like a cripple horse who can't race anymore, just shoot me and get it over with instead of waiting and waiting and waiting..... I even have a blister on my left index finger from pressing F5 continuously, never happend before :-o But back OT Admit: Phone call, preferably when I'm taking a crap :-D that would be too magical! Rejection: Email, goes faster than letter. I'm afraid I'm going to cut myself when opening it in all my enthusiasm :-(

@newms Thanks for the info :-) Well that is the odd thing, during the application you had to give two preferences for research groups of the uni and of course I googled the prof however he is from a different group than either of my preferred groups. So, I don't know much about his field or anything bio stuff. Weird right? Definitely :-)

F**K YEAH! Just received an email to schedule a phone interview tomorrow :-) lolwut? Since when do they have phone interviews for CS? Never heard of it before! But anyway sounds like fun (even though Rice doesn't top my list). Does anybody have any experience with phone interviews for CS? What could they ask or want to talk about, besides my poor gre performance or my ridiculous SoP?

This is something that worries me sometimes... However, doing a phd seems like so much fun!

I'll laugh and frame the rejection letters, I don't expect to be accepted anyway :-) unless they surprisingly dig my cocky SoP
