  1. The gradcafe administrators likely log IP addresses and will be able to tell if this is all from the same person (unless they use proxy servers).
  2. They accepted a few one day and then rejected everyone else the next: http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=(political|government|politics)+princeton&t=a&pp=250
  3. What is going on with these Princeton notifications...anyone?
  4. Some schools are definitely taking smaller cohorts because of state budget problems.
  5. Are we assuming that Berkeley is done with acceptances?
  6. There is a really large one of these from last year if you search a few pages back.
  7. Congrats MM - hey you coming out of chicago?
  8. Anyone claiming that NYU to put us out of our misery?
  9. Did you explicitly get an acceptance? Someone else posted a similar story about a fellowship nomination a few weeks ago, but they hadn't been accepted yet.

  11. Congrats Berkeley acceptances! Given that 13 people posted acceptances last year and that Berkeley has a very large program, I don't think they are done yet unless state budget problems forced them to take a smaller incoming class. To the accepted - was this from an individual professor emailing you or a mass email from the director of graduate studies?
  12. You would consider NYU over michigan?
  13. It seems like NYU notified on the second Wednesday of February last year (along with UCSD and UC-Berkeley - and some Yale), so the rest of the week might be very interesting.
  14. Ah ok, that makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
  15. Are these the complete subfield rankings?
  16. Who got in at Maryland? Did they fund?
  17. I heard that Duke was taking a smaller cohort than normal this year.
  18. You misread what CrimsonBlue wrote.
  19. I don't believe that those articles include a measure for non-academic work placements. Is it just that think tank work is a backup if you don't get an academic job, or that you specifically want to work for a think tank and are uninterested in academic work?
  20. Keep in mind that this article looks at 1960-2002 (i think - just glanced at it). You'll be going on the market in 2016 or 2017. This is a better article on placement (1990-2004): http://www.people.fas.harvard.edu/~chingos/rankings_paper.pdf
  21. It all depends on where you are at. Take the PowerPrep practice tests and see where you need improvement. A good target score for most schools is 700+ in both sections and close to 800 for quantitative if you're looking to go math nuts. If you need a higher math score, then you need to make sure you know how to tackle every type of problem as quickly as possible. This means practice and practice tests. If you need a higher verbal score then you need to memorize the words and read as much complicated writing as possible across a variety of disciplines. I don't think that a class is necessary if you are disciplined. If not, then it might be worth the $1,000 to make you study for a few hours every week. Otherwise the books and online material are sufficient. I did buy a few iphone apps that I found very helpful for the vocabulary.
  22. Dang! How are you doing it? Congrats!
