Anyone else yet to have any acceptances or rejections? I applied to 13 schools, but not one of them has responded either way. The suspense is killing me.
It all depends on the field. Humanities PhDs shouldn't expect much starting out, but an accounting or law professor will be making a nice salary from day 1.
I'd go to any of my 13 schools. I intentionally picked "safety schools" that gave good, full funding in great cities so it wouldn't be much of a let down to go to schools at the bottom of my list.
I've had 10 years off since undergrad but mixed in a pair of social science MAs along the way about two years apart each. I've been working in a highly quantitative field all along, which I hope will improve my chances of getting into a field that has a wicked crush on quants of late (poli sci).
As another recent Chicago CIR grad, I would also highly recommend the program. It gives you a great taste of what being an academic is all about. Great for testing the waters and leveraging it into something else if academia isn't your thing. Very rewarding experience. Adaptations is right about taking advantage of the workshops. They can be brutal as even undergrads and MA students rip apart full professors touring their latest paper.
