All right. It is just that it is difficult to give targeted information if you don't know the school in question. If they don't want to publicly tell the name of their school, then they can still use PM. -

Oh I see. Regarding safety schools (in my case in PhD in Chemistry), how should I go about in looking for these safety schools? Would NRC be reliable where I look at the lesser ranked schools and count that as my safety or is NRC pretty much unreliable like USNWR? -
What school and program did you get accepted to?

Can someone explain to me why UTK is classified as a tier 3 research school? -

But you also said you got into a Math program. Give me the program that corresponds to what schools you got accepted to. You never even gave the names of the schools you got accepted to. -
Can you give me the breakdown year my year for each school? So would it be like this: UCSB Year 1: $29,000 + $14,000 + $15,000 = $58,000 Year 2: $29,000 + $14,000 = $43,000 Year 3: $29,000 + $14,000 = $43,000 Year 4: $29,000 + $14,000 = $43,000 Year 5: $29,000 + $14,000 = $43,000 TAMU Year 1: $34,000 Year 2: $34,000 Year 3: $35,000 Year 4: $0 Year 5: $0 I don't see why TAMU gives for funding if this is the case. If anything UCSB gives more funding.

What constitutes as a "tier 1 research" university? Like what is the cut off rank? -
50% of PhD students who begin a PhD program eventually get a PhD. I don't know the % of students who get a MS though.

55% of medical school applicants get rejected from every single medical school they apply to so it is normal if your friend gets rejected from all 18 medical schools. If she is no longer a friend to you, it must mean that she did something bad. In your opinion, do you think it may have been a bad personality that got her rejected? -
How much funding are you getting at U of O?

In the graduate division course web page, it says the last 60 graded semester units. If you are applying during your 4th year where none of your 4th year grades are available, does this mean they look at your 2nd and 3rd year grades to calculate the 3.00 minimum GPA requirement or they calculate your 3rd and 4th and your admission offer is pending approval based on your final submitted transcript in Spring 2012 (I plan to apply in Fall 2011 and enter Fall 2012 for the PhD))?

When will you find out about your decision? Are you currently doing research right now? Are you thinking of retaking both GRE and CS GRE?

Can you elaborate on the name recognition outside academia vs. recognition within academia? Does this mean if you want to work in a research lab, then UTK is good, but if you want to be a professor, then UTK is bad? Also when you said UTK is a safety school, is it just a safety school for their economics / finance PhD Program or is it a safety school in general for pretty much all of their graduate programs? -
You should visit both schools and compare funding offers.
