  1. I'd say you definitely have a shot at a Master's program in most of not all the programs you listed. Not sure about a PhD, though, but getting a Masters is a step in the right direction! You know, with your major and work experience, I could see a reputable Operations Research PhD program accepting you. If I were you, I'd apply to Masters in Math programs as well as some OR PhD programs.
  2. bumblebee, wanderlust and space-cat, you don't even know how helpful you've been. Thank you, guys! I'm just about ready to shoot that email now...
  3. Nice. Another one to add to the list. I hope he doesn't feel like I'm asking too many.
  4. Thanks for the reply! You've raised some pretty important questions, so I'll definitely be asking them. And you're so right! How inconsiderate of me. I forget that I'm halfway across the world and that this forum is generally slow to respond sometimes.
  5. Thanks for the support guys.
  6. A department from which I recently receieved acceptance sent me the contact information of one of their graduate students. What are some good questions to ask? Should I ask specific ones or try to find out his general impression of the program? The first ones that come to mind are: What is the department atmosphere like? Are you happy there? What are the classes like? What was your experience working on your thesis with an advisor like? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  7. Thanks, Langoustine. I would imagine that if a senior statistician of some company were looking to hire someone, he or she would be aware of at least the top 10 or 20 statistics programs.
  8. I'm more or less in a similar situation myself (ok, not exactly). I was recently accepted into a Top 2 program that's been touted as one of the friendliest programs one could find. As a university overall, however, it's not as highly ranked as some of the other universities that I applied to. Are employers aware of rankings specific to a field or do they go by what the general public perceives? For example, would you go to an ivy league school that offers a top 20 program or a state school that offers a top 2 program?
  9. Congrats! I hope to receive an acceptance from there too...
  10. I received acceptance from UW on Jan 13th into their Masters in Biostats program with full funding!
