  1. Dan, have they talked to you guys about calling prospective students yet? I know that was mentioned in a thread last year or the year before.
  2. That made me laugh . Looking forward to it. Agreed. They need to wait until after 5pm for their own protection... from people like us.
  3. Got in too. Well, I guess it was UVA day and not Harvard day.
  4. Of course, they do it differently this year... I just got home and was ready to check my status. Gah . I think I'll be better for when it actually comes in. Counting down hours is terrible. I'm not predicting anything else for the rest of my life. The end.
  5. I got the financial aid status email. They really shouldn't send that today.. Or wait, if I got it later than some of you, does that mean I'm rejected? I think it's more likely because I sent my tax papers last week. . Good luck guys!!!
  6. Yay!!!! Congrats!!! Yes, we are officially the most nervous prospective students so far. I've been so unproductive at work today. I keep trying to check this thread from my phone when students aren't in my room hehe. Love you guys! Everyone else is like "what does one extra day matter? You'll find out eventually."
  7. Cheers! And I officially cannot sleep. I wish I had a really boring chemistry textbook to read. It used to help me fall asleep when I was in high school. I really hope it's tomorr
  8. Agreed! I've got red wine ready to go. White is also in the fridge in case I run out of red. I was also supposed to have girl scout cookies, but I already ate them. Oops..
  9. I think you can pretty much major in anything as long as you have a reason you can explain in your personal statement. It might help to get some work experience too. I did a general liberal arts honors program and a psych honors program for my undergrad.
  10. That's ok. In the higher ed dept, they say that about 3/4 of the people have internships, but not grad assistantships. I don't know about Ed Policy. I thought I remembered you talking about that on the Vandy board, but I wanted to make sure there wasn't a super secret assistantship Harvard deal going on that I was unaware of . Good luck with the Vandy assistantship and good luck tomorrow!!
  11. Just to clarify.. This is not at HGSE, you're talking about Vandy, right?
  12. Sorry to be posting so many times in a row, but I thought I would share my acceptance/rejection mini-playlist: Accepted! - DJ Khaled "All I do is win" - The Script "Hall of Fame" Rejected : - Gary Allan "Every Storm (runs out of rain)" - Shawn Mullins "Lullaby" Anyone have any good ones to share?
  13. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do about that too. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be driving when the email hits. I'm thinking about turning off my phone and waiting until I get home. I really don't want a moment like that to happen while I'm at work-- either I wouldn't be able to celebrate, or I would be trying to hold back tears. Either way, I couldn't be fully present at work. And trying to check my status on my phone while I'm driving (or pulling off to the side of the road) sounds like a terrible idea too. I think I'm going to turn off my phone at 3:30 CST and not check until I get home. It's going to be really REALLY difficult, but I think it's best.
  14. I don't know if this is what it could be, but anytime this happens to one of my students, it's because they were born somewhere other than the United States. Usually this happens if they were born on a military base. Otherwise, I don't have any ideas.
  15. Me! I can't believe they would do that to us. I don't know whether to be excited about tomorrow or dread it. Ahhh!
  16. Tomorrow!!!!
  17. Thank you so much for your advice. Sadly, weather was starting to play a bigger role than it should in the decision process.
  18. Ok, here's a question: how do you dress for the cold and do business casual? I'm picturing only being able to wear a sweater dress with really thick tights and leather boots, scarves, or a sweater over a long sleeve shirt with pants. Is that accurate? Can you actually stay warm without wearing jeans?
  19. And also... wow. I'm going through a very similar process. Slightly different reasons, but yes. Also, visit the programs! I'm holding off on any decisions until I visit because most of my knowledge about the program is what I've read on their websites. I strongly believe that when you visit "your" program, you'll know it's "the one."
  20. You have a tough decision to make... no one can really tell you what to do because in the end, it depends on which factor is most important for you. I do think that an ivy or pseudo ivy is going to have connections everywhere. However, It sounds like the internship/field work is a very important factor for you as you won't be getting your PhD and according to you, it seems that program at Stanford would focus on that. Is there a potential to get an internship/fieldwork at Stanford even if it's not required? Is that something they would be willing to work with you on? If you were to go to Georgetown, is it doable financially or is it just a bit more expensive? If it's not doable, it really is out of the question. I don't think the subfield thing would be too much of an issue. It would open your eyes to new things that you hadn't thought of while still letting you concentrate on what you are exactly wanting to do. Who knows? Maybe your idea of what you want to do would change slightly if you had that extra background information. UPenn seems to be the one that gives you what you want-- practitioner-wise and financially, in the type of area that you want. If the director has that kind of experience, I really don't think you're going to run into many issues. People are not going to read your resume and say "Penn? Why would you go there?" However, if it's newer, do they still have the faculty that you want? Good luck making the decision! I know it's going to be very difficult. Hopefully that's given you a few more things to think about. Ultimately, it really is going to come down to which factor is most important to you. You'll figure it out . And really, if you have only good options, no matter what you choose, you are going to make a good decision.
  21. Yup! It got down to a "cold" 40 degrees tonight, but during the day it's pretty warm.
  22. You can start here: .http://www.besteducationdegrees.com/25-scholarships-aimed-at-teachers/ But if you just google "teacher scholarships" there are a bunch.
  23. Hahaha. I'm scared of what the winter is going to be like in other places. It's currently 70 degrees where I am right now. As for the scholarships... I'm trying to figure that out. I'm going to my city's area foundation during Spring Break so they can help me. In the meantime, I'm on random internet sites. There seem to be scholarships for people who want to be teachers, but not that much for those who want to participate in other parts of education.
  24. And that is absolutely beautiful! This GCer approves.
  25. Yay! Welcome . It definitely has kept my mind off of Tuesday. I'm up to 7 with a potential 8 and 9. Darn ones I have to print out and mail in!
