  1. I am a current student in the Higher Education Program and have my assistantship at Admissions. -----if you need anything let me know
  2. Thank you for your input! very helpful. Penn does offer assistantships to their higher ed. students, and I received my top choice assistantship there. It is not full tuition, none of them are there, but it does pay well.
  3. On the HGSE website, it states that the maximum need based grant is $11,400, but maybe you can try for more. They may not match Penn's 13,500 because ---the tuition is higher at Penn,so you have to think about it in terms of the real amount over tuition. When you look at it that way, the wards are almost identical. Good luck!
  4. I have received decent offers for the master of education program in higher Education from Harvard Graduate School of Education and from The University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education. Penn is ranked slightly higher within my field and the Philly area does have a lower cost of living. Harvard has more name recognition and is offering more money (as a total sum and as a % of tuition). I know there are others looking at a similar scenario. How did you or how will you decide?
  5. Make a phone call to Rutgers be polite Have your lady tell them that she would like to able to include Rutgers in her decision process and that another institution is asking for a decision by the end of the day. If you are straightforward with them on the phone, but also polite --they should be able to tell you.
  6. And I am glad you did the same. It sounds like you preferred the English/writing programs from the distribution of your applications. I don't know where I will go. I am having an incredibly difficult time choosing from two higher ed. programs! I think I have to decide by around April 4th for one of them, so it is coming down to decision time now! Carnegie Mellon is an excellent school. I know little to nothing about good programs in writing, but the school has great name recognition if that matters to you . . . sounds like it will be good.
  7. found out I was accepted in a very strange way. A month ago or so, I get an email saying they rec'd my FAFSA, but that it could not be processed unless I were to be admitted. Then, yesterday, I get an email saying that it has been processed. i assume from that information --I am in. I check my status online, and I am in. Later that night, i get the standard "your decision is available" email. My financial aid there was all loans. I do not think it is a worthwhile investment for me. I will not be attending.
  8. I am sorry to hear that. Do you think they have a wait list there that you might be able to get one, or are you leaning more toward the English Ph.D? I will not be accepting their offer of admission.
  9. Thank you for letting everyone know. Especially with U.Penn's timeline, this is going to come at a critical time. Everything is happening . . .and soon!
  10. I found out about Austin today. They did not even send me an email, but they sent an email about financial aid and it prompted me to check.
  11. I am so nervous because if I do not get a significant amount of aid, I am pretty sure i will not be able to attend. I hope we hear sooner rather than later.
  12. I also applied to the Ed Admin. MA at UT Austin and have not heard back. Does this mean that I am either rejected or wait-listed? If you do not mind, of course ---How did you find out that you were wait-listed? Thanks
  13. seriously, they are the only school I am waiting for now, but --- you still waiting?
  14. Accepted via email today for the Ed.M. in Higher Education
  15. I applied and was accepted to that program early February, but I submitted my application early (Jan 2). was informed via email and then had to log in to get linked to a PDF letter. A friend of mine was wait listed for the program last year. She applied and received notice of Acceptance in mid-April with no news before then. BUT, she goes to HGSE now! Good luck
  16. I called UT Austin, spoke to a woman named Millie. She said higher ed. decisions have not been made yet -- probably by March 15th, but she said they could take longer even.
  17. Me too. I really want to know if I am in!
  18. I know right. The wait is killing me! I applied for the Ed.M. in Higher Education Management and I can't take this waiting anymore!
  19. Program: Higher Education Administration and some College Student Affairs (leaning towards admin.) What Schools Are You Applying To: U.Penn, Harvard, Rutgers, University of Vermont, Penn State, UT Austin Acceptances: so far U.Penn, Penn State and Rutgers
  20. I really want to do this too, but it makes me nervous. I was accepted to my top school with just too little offered to make it possible for me to go.
  21. This is fun. I have definitely been looking into this to kill time I've been ranking by a combination of location, cost and FUN. I live in Coastal CA right now, so almost anywhere else is cheapper. With the exception of Boston, I will probably be moving to a cheaper apartment. U.Penn -- Wonderful city location, costs are okay UT Austin -- super fun, pretty good as far as costs University of Vermont -- very inexpensive and mediocre as far as fun level Rutgers -- New Brunswick sort of expensive, fun place to live Harvard -- super expensive, but fun Penn State -- mid range prices, not fun
