  1. this is a good idea. I suggest that we gather in groups. And let's wear colors that match
  2. isn't it very early morning over there in America right now?
  3. no, I understand if emails etc take time to compose and all. but if we call the department, I don't see why they can't just tell us eg 'all acceptances and waitlists have been sent out' -- I know the red tape is horrid, but that piece of info if given would help us so much -- I don't mind getting news later in writing -- but if we call they can tell us informally?
  4. that's interesting. why won't they tell us if we get rejected? it's only our right to know [we paid for the service. sorry but we did too]
  5. I actually called them Mon or shit and they said that they were 'still in the process of making decisions and notifying applicants' and that they 'hoped to be done by Fri'. At least if all acceptances and waitlists have been sent out they could tell us, couldn't they You mean they didn't email you the rejection letters? -- or that your rejection emails came much later?
  6. well, I only have one uni left -- Boston. So I'm more or less 3/4 through this shit. and is this crazy but I'm beginning to feel annoyed that Berkeley isn't even bothering to give us official rejection letters.
  7. UT Austin just sent me a rejection email. sigh. just letting you guys know -- so I'm the new Austin rejectee for english in results posted.
  8. I just had a talk with a friend. sorry I blew up -- whatever the case I shouldn't have. thanks for your well wishes.
  9. these things -- there will never be legitimate evidence, simply because you can't prove such things. I suppose I should change it, in case I get sued and I still have to be all professional right? so let's go ahead.
  10. well there's also 'I suck' which doesn't seem like a festive CNY option....
  11. nah, I meant nationally -- if you're from asia (not racially asian) -- I see you are in england?
  12. I empathize. Hang in there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijZRCIrTgQc'>Everybody hurts, and you're not alone. Am suffering so much too
  13. I know -- thanks for your sympathy. But they've roundly pissed me off, and if somewhere else takes me I will go instead. Just, I won't go to a uni that has this sort of hypocrisy and xenophobia at work. I deserve better than that. And I take satisfaction in knowing I won't be the only viable scholar they've lost that way. Probably many really other capable people from India, etc have applied, to no avail. And we'll just be going somewhere else instead.
  14. yesterday an insider (mosquito) said that there are no students from Asia there. A few brits, a few canadians -- which means they're all asian american. I wouldn't bet on it really. I find it difficult to believe too, and as far as I know, Berkeley is the only english department at which international students are so poorly represented in english.
  15. I have looked at them. They are Asian American. It's not a matter of descent. It's a matter of nationality. My POI is about as pissed off as I am. He says the application is definitely good enough. ETA: my POI there supervised the whole damn app, including the writing sample.
  16. they should just send out the rejections now instead of making me wait

I think I read somewhere that patience is a virtue. :-P

  17. I see Berkeley has started sending out waitlists I wish they would reject me and get on with it eta: I now hate them so much. I am sad about Alberta's rejection but I think it was routine. But Berkeley English -- does not like people from ASIA.
  18. I just wanna say congrats to all those who have got good news I've been so torn up over my own shit that I don't think I've expressed the sense of relief I get when someone else is liberated from the agony
  19. apparently there's nothing else to do but to listen to Kid A. on repeat.

  20. this is a pattern that never should have been I refuse to believe that in general critics from Asia who are really talented are applying to Berkeley and not getting in because they're not good enough.... It might be the case for a few cohorts but I doubt this is true over a sustained period of time. excuse the grammar.
  21. one of my friends didn't get notified until very late - but he got an MA acceptance even though he had applied to a phd program. I kinda think they put some 'waitlist' people for the MA? O.o
  22. it is comforting to know that there is a companion in misery because misery still delights to trace/ its semblance in another's case
  23. I have resigned myself to rejections. I suppose weeping > uncertainty
  24. awww dead *hugs* I really do want to get into Berkeley; I cannot say how much. That said -- given mosquito's honest and helpful posts -- I am resigned to my fate -- it seems that they don't even take people from asia and I don't see why I should be the first...
