SLP/Communication Disorders Masters Applicants

Has anyone other than the lone poster in the results heard back from Arizona State? Anyone contacted them? Is everyone on spring break this week in the states or are there still office folk working during spring break? I know at my home university, it is just the students who have time off, not the office workers! -

I heard from the university of Houston, but that may be because I was a 'special' scenerio, being an international student and out of major (double wammy hehe). I haven't heard from Texas State - San Marcos at all and I am not sure which method they use to release their results. I really wish I would have heard back from everyone already because I need to start looking into housing situations!! I'm debating giving Texas State a call, but I have no idea if all the schools are on their spring breaks now? They usually take a week or more to respond to emails... -
There aren't too many threads happening around FSU. I keep hearing about crime problems, but is this really an exaggeration? I live in a big city and while we do have crime, it doesn't seem to be such a hot topic compared to what is mentioned about Tallahassee. Is living on campus a bad idea as a grad student? Are the buses really as bad as people describe if you live a bit further out from campus? It has been hard to find information about FSU and Tallahassee!

I am just wondering if anyone accepted to FSU has inquired about their funding offers? -

This is really the only 'live' thread going on for SLP that I am aware of. Someone who frequents this thread might be able to help you out with your questions about Nazareth. If you want to search the forums for specific topics, just type key words into the search box in the top right of your screen (not sure if you already did this)! You might be able to do that to find general information about the college or anything else you are interested in knowing. Hope this helps a bit! -

Tulipfern -- have you been in contact with Texas State at all? I haven't, and have not heard anything back. Just wondering if you had! -

I find a letter I received amusing, when it states that because of the school's 'high standards' many qualified applicants apply. But then in the actual letter, there are tons of grammatical errors. Irony anyone? -

I guess it would depend on how much of a loan you will need. I know I had to decline an acceptance into the University of Sydney because of the costs a couple years ago. It was just way too much for me and I was dissapointed because I would have loved to go to that location for the experience. I would say go with the program that interests you the most. I think loving the program is way more important then costs, but only as long as those costs are somewhat feasible with the help of loans. -

TayFray, which school are you attending for your program? How do you find the courses? May I also ask what your first degree was in? -

I've been rejected by a couple and am waiting on a couple. One of the programs emailed me saying that I was not considered due to my out of major status and that I was missing some of the courses they would like me to have (clinic based). They said otherwise I was a strong candidate, so they are recommending me for their leveling program. I'd like to know my options though because I am very unfamiliar with the difference between leveling programs and actually completing another bachelors with the major being communication & disorders. I'm not sure if all graduate progarms at diff. universities would consider the leveling program equivalent to the bachelors. I just don't want to do a leveling program and then run into the same problem again! -

My major is in Speech Sciences. From the leveling programs I looked at, the key courses I am missing are clinic based. We are not allowed to do any clinic work at my home university unless we have a SLP degree or are in the graduate program. -

Thanks for this reply! I am an international applicant, so there really aren't any schools too close to me! Is it different to take a leveling program as opposed to just completing the pre-reqs as individual classes? I'm not too familiar with the US system. FutureSLP -- did you complete any at Utah State? Do you know if schools consider online courses the same as in person courses in terms of quality when it comes to graduate applications? -

I might end up having to take Post-Bachelors courses because right now I am being considered an 'out of major' applicant which has seriously hurt my chances of getting in places. I noticed that on the results page, quite a few people have posted that they completed Post-Bachelors in the Communication and Disorders major and I was just wondering which schools you completed this in? I am trying to find out what universities offer the Post-bachelors 'levelling' courses, rather than having to complete an entirely new bachelors program. Thanks! -

someone posted in the results that they got accepted to UT via postal mail. There goes the statement they have on the site, which I posted earlier about the results being online! -

I just checked out UT's site and I don't remember this red box being there, but I haven't been on the website in what seems like forever so I may be mistaken. Anyways, this is what it says: ADMISSION DECISIONS are typically announced the second week of March prior to UT Austin closing for Spring Break. Decisions are announced on your Application Status Check on the Graduate and International Admissions site regarding our decision of either ‘ADMIT’ or ‘DENY’. If admitted, you should email our CSD Graduate Office with your decision to accept or decline our offer of admission as soon as possible, but no later than April 15th. Those students who may be placed on a 'waiting list' will have their admission decision posted on the Graduate Admissions Status Check site after all those admitted in early March have responded with a decision. So now we all know where we should frantically be checking -

I noticed on a different board that someone for Audiology had heard back from Dallas. Just a heads up that maybe SLP results will be out soon if anyone applied to that program. -
