I think many people are not taught the tricks properly back in elementary school for the you're/your/their/there/to/too/etc. Many teachers don't even do these things properly haha It also really irritates me when people say 'libary' instead of 'libRary' (like the Principal of an elementary school I know...) My friend has horrible spelling and he thinks it is because nobody ever really corrected him back in the day, so he just kept writing it wrong the whole way through school. He didn't realize how horrible he was until spell check came into his life and even that can't get things right 100% of the time.

well, if you think you have it rough as out-of-state, welcome to my world of being international!! I think the UNC acceptances might be trickling in to people instead of all at once, but then again, I might be convincing myself of this so I can believe I still have a chance hehe Did anyone get emails or anything from UNC with questions about your application for those still waiting and those already accepted? -

Yeah, I'm wondering if they are done accepting now too. *sigh* -
This is the thing -- I haven't been accepted anywhere. Waistlisted yes. So that is why I'm a bit confused as to what to do. I really can't see spending so much on a single application, especially when the thing I am paying for is a total ripoff AND when it is only required by the grad admissions -- not even my specific department! Very frusterating.
-
Yes they do know this -- I was in contact with them because they originally had me down for needing to take the TOEFL too. They said they require the evaluation from any international university no matter what. The department didn't seem to know about the requirement, because they didn't understand why they weren't able to access my information until they also contacted admissions.
-
So, I need some outside opinion/thoughts regarding credential evaluations for international transcripts. A school I applied to is requiring I have a course by course analysis completed of my transcript and the cost of this is $160 USD. Now, I understand why this might have to be done if you were coming from a school where your items are not in English...but I'm not in that situation since I'm coming from an english speaking country. I checked out what the course by course analysis is, and it is basically them re-typing out my transcript but including course titles in addition to adding up all the credits and calculating a GPA. They also include information like 'completed bachelors in XXXX year with major in Y'. I have already sent specific info identical to this to the department itself (writing out course titles etc), but the evaluation is being required by the graduate college and they are holding my transcripts/GRE hostage in the meantime so the department is unable to view it. Including this fee, the application to the one school would be approximately $300 dollars. Do you think paying such a high application fee is worth it? I'm debating withdrawing my application, but I'm a bit torn. Any thoughts/insight is welcomed.

I'm thinking that next week will be the week where we start hearing back from the majority of schools, at least it seems this way from last years results. I kind of dread coming home after work to see if there is a letter waiting for me in the mail. I want to know, but I don't want to know. I think this is the most terrifying experience I've ever had! -
are you missing some of the application materials? that would be my guess. Or maybe it is their term for 'waitlist'? not too sure.

I'm worried about my application materials not all being there for the schools I applied to. I've dealt with one situation a couple weeks ago and now I am dealing with another! I guess the upside is that the departments have contacted me to check in on the materials, rather than just outright rejecting me for an incomplete application. This process is so stressful!! -
Abysmal GRE score, Great app otherwise. What should I do??

Would you rather spend a year saving money or wasting your time with a degree you won't be using? If you really want to pursue law school, I would say not to continue with a degree you aren't too interested in, just for the sake of not having to work. You might have to pay for yourself to go through school (or partially pay), so why not get ahead and save up some money? Working isn't that bad. It might give you some much needed time to think over your options for the future. -

I can only imagine how hilarious (or crazy) the admissions people think we are if they can view how many times each person logs in to their account. Edit: I've also chomped off all of my fingernails while constantly refreshing the results page on this site. -

Just out of curiosity -- have people on here been checking their statuses on the school websites, or have you been mainly relying on postal mail/email/gradcafe for your updates? I really haven't been checking on the actual school websites, so I'd be interested to know what others have been doing! -
Well, some of you might find this a bit corny, but I'd like to share a quote that I go back to when I have the same types of feelings. I'm a worrier by nature, so it has really helped me out! For me personally, I think it is the fear of failing at 'grad school' that worries me the most, so this quote really applies to me! "What great thing would you attempt if you knew you could not fail?" -- Robert H. Schuller

For me, I would say on a scale from 1-10 I'd give location a high score of 7.5. I completed my undergrad at a highly ranked school and to be quite honest, didn't think it was that great, so because of this, the ranking doesn't really matter to me. As an international student I'm already looking at high fees (I'm doing a master's so the odds of funding are slim), so that part is important, but the general cost between the schools I applied to aren't that much different from each other. I've only applied to those schools that I feel have faculty compatible with my interests. Soooo, this means that location is a high ranking item for me. I've been looking into climates, transportation, city life (food/shopping/nightlife) and housing (location from uni, cost, types of housing available, safety) for all of the cities I applied to. I'd love to go somewhere warm, since I"m coming from a cooler climate where I can relax on a balcony in the sunshine and do my work instead of being cooped up inside. I also like that some of the schools I applied to provide 'free' bus transportation, since I won't have a car. I've also looked around to see how long it would take to get me to major points around the city via the bus or walking/biking. The one thing I regret is not applying somewhere that has nice beaches!

Thanks so much! I don't know why I didn't madly click everything yesterday, but I guess the 'apply for admission' didn't really seem like it would be the right thing to click. I'm finally back to my normal screen like before. Thanks!!

I figured out my problem with my UNC login thanks to a reply on the main boards. Apparently I had to click on the 'apply for admission' on the front page I was getting in order to see my application things. It wasn't taking me directly to that page anymore for some reason. Phew, I'm so glad someone was able to help me out with that, so at least I'm not out of the running yet!! Also, my status is reading not available as well. -

I tried to get into mine and my little box with the status check doesn't even show up. I'm not thinking that is a good thing. darnit all -
I logged on to my UNC (chapel hill) account and my status check area has disappeared along with the box where you can check the 'to dos' etc. Does this mean that I have been rejected and should be expecting a letter? Anyone else have experience with MyUNC and the status check? Is this complete disappearing normal instead of showing 'rejected' or something like that as a status update?
