  1. From my experience pubs are not a necessity but they are a huge help. They show to the adcoms that you're serious about research and have experience doing academic work. I don't imagine there being many first authors among applicants.
  2. I saw that Minnesota's HR program rejected people yesterday. I know it's not OB but there may be overlap for some people.
  3. I was a little skeptical of the WashU post too given how early in the season it was posted. I haven't seen any other information from their program though. I also haven't heard anything from Cornell. Who got accepted at Penn State? Do you know if they've extended all their offers?
  4. It depends on what you want to study in management. Some research will require a heavier background in math (e.g., finance), while others will be more psychology or sociology (e.g., OB). I'm not sure where entrepreneurship or international business fall, but a lot of schools generally lump those with OB departments so I assume they're more social science. If you're more interested in the social science part of business I would recommend stats classes over math. Math classes will give you a better foundation for stats but could be overkill for the level of stats you'll need to be successful. With what you shared you should be fine getting into a decent program. I would recommend not emphasizing your desire to teach too much in your applications. The goal of most PhD programs is to develop researchers. There are a few programs out there that have classes on teaching (U Washington comes to mind) but they are rare.
  5. I'm officially rejected from Michigan, not a big surprise. Narrowing down my list.
  6. It looks like most of the UNC emails came on Thursday or Friday early morning. Hopefully that means we find out tomorrow.
  7. Nope. Everything has gone really quiet. I wonder if that means programs have made their invitations.
  8. Looks like a tough day for Northwestern applicants. It also looks like more programs are making decisions which is good.
  9. Congrats! I got the same email. Good to know where I stand but now I have to wait another week…
  10. Once signed in a box appeared about half way down the right side of the page that said "Who's Viewed Your Profile? 6 Your profile has been viewed by 6 people in the past 30 days." I followed the link and could see who's viewed my profile. I couldn't see the exact person from each school but I was given a list of about 10 people that could have accessed my profile. The odd one was Florida. I didn't apply to their program but someone from the department viewed my profile. It's not an exact science but it's something else to check.
  11. Same here. I think once UNC sends notifications, for better or for worse, I'll be able to relax a bit. It's just good to know one way or another. I also discovered that you can see who accesses your Linkedin profile, so I can see when different schools look at my account.
  12. I got the same email today. I'm more confident with some of my other schools, so this wasn't a huge loss. Anything from UNC yet?
  13. I thought we were supposed to hear from UNC last Friday… I'm beginning to think that since I haven't heard anything that means I'm not on the interview list. Depending on how you interpret "end of the second week in February" we may not hear anything until this Friday (the end of the second full week in February). I'm still really grateful that they let us know about the first cut; the other programs I applied to don't tell you anything until you get interviewed or rejected.
  14. I haven't heard anything since they announced the first cuts. I assumed the second week of February ended today, but it looks like it really ends next week. I've seen a lot of people in the same ambiguity so maybe they just haven't made any decisions on interviews.
  15. Does anyone have updates on any of the following schools? Michigan, Utah, Minnesota, Emory, WashU Olin, North Carolina, Penn State, South Carolina, Oregon, Indiana, Georgia, and Wisconsin
  16. My impression is that every school has a lower limit of what they'll consider with the GMAT. If you pass that threshold they'll look at the rest of your application. The top 10-15 schools are probably around 750, top 30 probably around 700, and top 50 schools are probably 650 (these are just my best guesses).
  17. I applied two years ago and am going through the rounds again this year. I upped my GMAT and got more research experience through my job. My GPA is still low but there isn't much I can do about that at this point. I'm hoping things work out better but always have contingency plans in place.
  18. Congrats on PSU; they were high on my list. I have a low GPA which I'm sure isn't helping me.
  19. What was the application deadline for Haas? I'm trying to get a sense of how long it takes committees to make decisions (and I'm trying to get more conversation going on).
