  1. I got this very irritating email from Davis on Feb 11th: "We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. You may review the decision after 8:00 a.m. PST on February 17, 2011, by accessing your UC Davis application on the online admission web site. Please contact the Geography program if you have any questions regarding this decision." Wow, thanks for the heads up guys. Now I know that for the next week I should dial my anxiety level up from high, to crazy high. I'm pretty sure adcomms enjoy torturing people like us. When I checked and found out that I had been accepted I also noticed they they didn't mention funding. I'm in the same boat as you on the "wait and see" thing. I'm still waiting on two schools as well, both of which I would chose over UC Davis. Congrats on the acceptance though, I hope it was your first choice school.
  2. In a strange reversal of circumstances, my family and friends have been telling me things like "you should have some sort of back-up plan for if you don't get in anywhere" or "don't feel too bad if you get rejected from all of your schools this year, a lot of people don't get in until the second time around. Your application will be much stronger next year." Meanwhile the two professors who I have worked very closely with as an undergraduate are saying things like "I'm pretty sure you're going to get accepted everywhere" and "don't accept any of your offers for admission until you've talked to me first, I'll help you negotiate for more funding" and "When you hear from Cornell we'll take you out for drinks to celebrate" Sadly I am nowhere near as confident in my chances as they are. Seriously, it's late February and I haven't heard anything from the two schools that I actually want to go to.
  3. The chair of my department wrote a LoR for me and advised me to waive my right to examine the letter because A) professors will be more forthcoming if they know you will not be reading their letters and adcomms tend to be suspicious of students that are not confident enough in their recommended to waive their right to review the letter. After all of my applications had been submitted he sent me his letter of recommendation anyway. I have to say, the ego boost WAS nice!!
  4. I received this very cryptic message from UC Davis on February 11th. "We are in the process of making a decision on your application for admission. You may review the decision after 8:00 a.m. PST on February 17, 2011, by accessing your UC Davis application on the online admission web site. Please contact the Geography program if you have any questions regarding this decision." Really? Who does that? I was pretty sure this was a precursor to the rejection letter as I felt that my application to Davis was easily the weakest (I had to shave my three page SoP down to a measly 1000 characters and have taken only one geography class as an undergraduate.) Three days later I got my first firm answer: a rejection... from my SAFETY SCHOOL... on Valentines day! After moping and feeling sorry for myself for a few days I checked my application status on the Davis website convinced that I was in for another rejection. When I logged in I noticed that immediately after my name was UC Davis ID#xxxxxxxx, and then Congratulations! Needless to say I was pretty shocked. Now if only the other two schools (both of them my top choices) would stop playing with my emotions and just let me know already I could move on with my life. logarytim is right. This is like hell.
  5. Congrats! Did you just hear today? When was the application due date for Sociology at Cornell, was it Jan 15th like development Soc? On that note does a later application necessarily mean a later decision date? I'm going crazy waiting to hear from Cornell. The professor that I spoke to in the Dev Soc program knows one of my professors here at UW and told him that she was really impressed with me. While this seems promising the fact that I haven't heard anything from them is stressing me out and I'm not sure how much of a say individual professors have when it comes to admission decisions.
  6. I also applied to Development Sociology. Has anyone heard from them yet?
