  1. Just hang in there...don't lose hope. Seems like most programs are slow this year in getting out decisions. I went to the orientation for CSULB this past weekend and was told that they had over 700 applicants applied to CSULB this year.
  2. I applied to CSULB in mid-January and heard back from the department by mid-February...then received the official letter towards the end of March. From what I understand from LB during their info session, they place their applicants in three categories - accepted, not accepted, or pending. Pending category folks will then have to wait it out longer to know whether or not they're accepted...maybe in part due to the number of people who actually accept their offer of admission as time goes on. Good luck though! I hope you hear back soon. =)
  3. I applied to Cal State Long Beach and UCLA this year. I'm still waiting for UCLA but heard back from Long Beach in February and received the formal letter of acceptance in early March. I actually couldn't tell you which CSU programs would be better but have generally heard good things about Long Beach and their program. I considered applying to USC as well because they have a satellite campus in Orange County where I live but the huge price tag still deterred me from applying. Personally, I don't think it would be worth it to pay so much for an MSW especially when I don't expect to be raking in big bucks when I'm done. The alumni network and the reputation at USC is nice but at the end of the day, I feel that I can achieve a comparable educational experience elsewhere, incur a lesser amount in debt, and no matter where you go it is still up to you to seek out those opportunities to build a network with other professionals.
  4. I'm also still waiting for UCLA....hopefully soon...I just need to know even if it is a rejection...
  5. Thanks for the info! It's actually good to know the waiting will end soon to know one way or another....
  6. CONGRATS jedifreac! I'm glad to hear that you got in!
  7. I called in early February to check on the status of my application to make sure I wasn't missing anything. I tried calling repeatedly and finally got a hold of the department. Lance Fooks was really nice and helpful over the phone. He looked up my application and told me that he was actually preparing it to present to the admissions committee for review the following week. Nailbiting indeed! Your experience sounds really great though. Good luck to us.
  8. I've also started making calls this week as well and have been checking the website incessantly but to no avail...voicemails at the department and no status updates on the website. I've always had a difficult time contacting the department though...so no surprise but still disappointed at this point because I would really like to know. My mind is sort of made up in regards to where I am going but I need to know one way or another from UCLA to fully weigh my options... That's absurd that you've had to wait this long since December! I turned in mine in January and was told that my application was in review in early February...so I feel like I am losing hope and just knowing that the new admit welcome day is next week is just another reason to lose hope... Maybe this is for the better...I was kind of dreading the possibility of moving and living in LA...but would have seriously considered it if UCLA was an option.
  9. Ahhh...was told by UCLA that decisions should be made by end of March - April 1st at the latest...still haven't heard from them...so anxious. I just need to know one way or another so I can move on and figure out where I'll be going....this waiting period is driving me crazy. Is anyone else still waiting for UCLA? Should I just anticipate that I have been rejected since I haven't heard from them? I've called but no answer at the department and have checked my status online but it still states no decision has been made on my application...
  10. Your life experience seems pretty impressive so I would say the same as the previous poster and would think you do stand a good chance of getting in. I attended the info session for CSULB a year ago and was told that due to the budget crisis, they were admitting fewer number of students (if I remember correctly, she told me they normally admit ~250 but will now only admit ~160). That was a little over a year ago and the economic climate of California hasn't really improved plus the pending new budget will likely slash additional funding so it seems to be a bit more difficult than most people realize to get into a CSU grad program. Specifically for CSULB, I was told that more people apply to the youth/families concentration versus the older adults/families concentration...which actually works out fine for me since my experience have been mainly with adults and I'd like to continue working with adults. I applied to the older adults/families concentration at CSULB for Fall 2011 and was notified last month that I was accepted. I graduated from UCSD in 2008 and have spent the last 2 years working before deciding to go back. I think most schools also look at the number of hours you have in a related field as well so even though someone may have years of experience...the actual hours worked will vary depending on whether it was part or full time. Nonetheless, I don't know if age is a factor but I'm sure your experience speaks greatly for your committment to the field of social work so I think you should have a good chance.
  11. I only applied to UCLA and CSULB... Actually heard back from CSULB in early Feb. stating that the School of Social Work has nominated me for admissions to the University and that I should be expecting a formal offer from the University soon. I just received a formal admissions offer from CSULB on 3/11 via postal mail...the letter was sent out 3/04. Now I'm just waiting for UCLA....which is slowly driving me crazy and I'm just waiting for March to be over with.
  12. spoke to Lance from UCLA and he said decisions are being made throughout March...then he added that the latest would be early April to know about admissions decision...I hope I'll hear by March so I can decide what to do come Fall...
  13. same.....still no word from UCLA for me as well...anxiously waiting...
