  1. Thanks for the information! So they do call everyone who was admitted? Good to know for when acceptances via phone for Michigan start showing up in the results.
  2. The University of New Hampshire. Too many of their graduate classes are upper level undergraduate courses with one extra paper. Makes for easy coursework, but you don't learn as much.
  3. Only one notification has been posted, and it was from a faculty member. I'd say they probably haven't finished sending out acceptances yet.
  4. That's not necessarily the case. When I was applying to MA programs one of my acceptances arrived via post with no other notification. Perhaps this is less likely for Ph.D. programs, but it is possible.
  5. As long as we are discussing schools that have free stuff: Fordham University has free laundry in the dorms, though grad students would have to sneak in to use it. (Unless their graduate housing also has this, but I doubt it does since it's off campus.) MIT has free regular computer printing.
  6. Do you have any idea what the rents are like in or near Santa Barbara? Some people have been telling me it's probably more expensive than where I currently live in LA county, but I don't know how current their information is. I'm still waiting to hear from UCSB, and I'm concerned that since no one has contacted me I'm just waiting for the grad school to get around to processing a rejection. I applied to 10 schools, two have rejected me, one has made a decision but I'm waiting for the letter to get here, and there are seven I haven't heard from.
  7. Has anyone heard anything from UCSB recently? When I e-mailed them to ask if they had all my materials, they mentioned that they were going to have most decisions by the end of last week or start of this week. Yet the decision available button still remains gray and unclickable on my status page. (I assume that is where a button to see the decision appears once they make one?)
  8. Nope, I haven't. And the website for checking application status is odd. I don't see a space where a decision might be displayed if there was one.
  9. I think that people worry too much about ranking. Fit is really much more important, as long as the school has a decent placement record.
  10. I've been checking all of the application status sites for the schools I applied to, but I'm checking two more often because it seemed like they were going to decide soon. When I e-mailed UCSB about something they said that they would make most decisions by the end of last week or the start of last week. BU told me that my application was in the batch that's being considered now, but they haven't made a decision since the 10th it seem. (They post a complete list of applications without names on their site, it's kind of interesting to look at. Not the best for privacy though, since reccomenders names and school names are listed.) Anyone else waiting on these schools, or some other school that you think should be letting you know soon?
  11. I'd say go with an open mind, and be ready to learn about what that program has to offer. Ranking isn't everything, and it might turn out that NYU is a better match than the other program.
  12. Check the website if you haven't already. The decision was posted there for me before I got the e-mail. If there's nothing there that could be a good thing, just about everything posted today from there has been rejections.
