Has anyone heard anything more from Rutgers yet?

what to expect for a rejection/acceptance
kahlan_amnell replied to jinyuan's topic in Waiting it Out
You can't tell what grad school letters are based on how they look. Acceptances regularly come in small envelopes. Big envelopes sometimes contain random information from the school that they are sending you before they make a decision. So, you'll have to wait for the person to send you things, or let them open them if you can't wait. You can do temporary changes of address with the post office you know. -
I don't have any extra offers that I'm holding on to at the moment, just one acceptance and one waitlist. Good luck!

It depends on the school if it is ok to date undergrads. There are some schools/departments that have a policy that grad students cannot date undergrads at the university. That rule usually is for grad students who TA, since any undergrad could end up in their class.

It just applies to PhD programs more often than MA programs, because many MA programs are unfunded. I've also just generally heard the CGS resolution mentioned in reference to PhD programs, and not MA program. But, I saw no reason it wouldn't apply to funded MA programs when I looked at the text of the resolution.

I just called Rutgers, and was told that I'm on the waitlist, and they plan to notify people who are waitlisted by April 15th.

I called Rutgers about an hour ago, and was told the person I needed to talk to was on the phone and she would call me back. I'm worried that it will get to be 5:00 and she won't call back. I'm tempted to call them again at 4:30 or 4:45, but I am afraid that might be a bit pushy and annoying. I would really like to hear from Rutgers before the weekend starts though. Edit: So I called them back, but no one answered the phone at 4:30. I guess they all left for the weekend. Now I'll have to wait until Monday.

Older students are the norm in my program, to the point where I feel a little out of place. Over half of the students in my department are over 30, married, and have kids.
-
I still see "no decision" on my status page and I haven't heard from them. I think if I haven't heard by the end of the week I should call them and find out what's going on.
-
Mine hasn't either.

You are missing the point and being immature. There are various cases of this happening in graduate admissions that could have been posted here. Or the OP could have said something, anything, about graduate admissions in the original post. But, as it is, it's entirely about undergrad admissions, which is not what this site is about. Sorry if wanting to stay on topic in a forum other than The Lobby makes me "a moron" in your view.

Ummm, first of all don't call people names. Second of all, this is a site about graduate school and graduate school applications. So, this unfortunate mistake in UNDERGRADUATE applications isn't all the relevant. Similar things on a smaller scale have happened in graduate admissions, but this thread didn't mention them.
-
This has been a really difficult year for graduate admissions. If you don't get in this time, you really should consider trying again another year if you really want to go to grad school.
-
You noticed this was undergrad applicants, right? Not that it makes it any better, just less relevant to these forums.

I should hear from Rutgers today. I guess I'll wait till tomorrow or Friday to call them if I don't hear today. I'm ready for this to be over.
-
Finally heard back from Temple, they sent me a rejection letter in the mail. They never posted their decision on the OwlNet site. So, I should hear from Rutgers today or tomorrow according to the person I spoke to when I called them last week.

Yeah, if I do move cross country I might consider selling my furniture and starting over. But for moving a shorter distance, I think it would be more cost effective to move the furniture than replace it. Also, I'm not sure if there will be many reasonably priced places to buy furniture where I'm moving. Plus, I don't want to assemble a whole apartment worth of furniture again.
-
That may be, but I don't drive, neither does my significant other, and I don't think anyone I know would want to drive U-Haul for me. Also, I have two cats, and I'd rather take a short flight with them then drive with them for a couple days.
-
Does anyone have advice on moving? I'm planning to move an apartment's worth of furniture, probably just a couple states away, possibly cross country if I get another acceptance. I don't think that I'll be using a U-Haul or similar rental truck. I've considered using something like http://www.upack.com/ or http://www.pods.com/, but I think that some of my furniture might be a bit heavy to load myself, and I doubt my apartment complex would like me taking up parking spaces with a big truck or packing pod. So, that means I probably need to hire a full service moving company. That kind of worries me, because I've heard so many horror stories about movers doing things like holding all your stuff hostage until you pay them twice what you agreed, or just generally tacking on lots of fees at the last minute. Can anyone recommend a moving company they had a good experience with? Preferably one that serves the West coast.

Still waiting on three schools. I think I will call Temple sometime this week, as e-mail to two different people seem to have been ignored. Rutgers said they planned to post their decisions by April 1st. As for Claremont Graduate University...I have no idea when they will get back to me.

I've seen the article for more than a week, perhaps the blog post was written a week ago, but the article has been since January 30. My comments were about the article, not the blog post. The job situation being bad in academia is hardly news. Sure the current economic situation has made it worse, but as a humanities MA student going on to a Ph.D. I've always known that the job prospects weren't great. I guess the article serves a purpose for those who haven't considered the job market at all, but for most others it's just old news really.

Who are the best of the best universities in US in your mind
kahlan_amnell replied to yyemperor's topic in The Lobby
HYPS? Should that sound familiar? Cause it really doesn't, and I don't know what it stands for. -
This article again? I've seen this posted so many times in various places. Honestley, I think the author has a few good points, but overall he just sounds bitter and is trying to scare people.
