  1. I think this situation does not present any conflict. I have received an I-20 along with the admissions package from one school. But the school that I have chosen has still not sent my I-20 and I will just discard the I-20 from the other school. I already told them that I was not accepting their offer.
  2. Webometrics is not a very good ranking of universities in my opinion and it is even worse if you consider specialities, because this ranking has no clue about fields of study.
  3. I applied to the Computer Vision field
  4. Again universities don't pay that much attention as we might think to stuff like GRE scores. I got rejected from the PhD program and got in for the MS program. My GRE quant was 720, GRE verbal 600 and AW 4.0. I didn't do any subject test and my TOEFL was 108.
  5. Probably this does not matter anymore. I know a guy who graduated from CMU INI. And also I hear admittances from this program way more often than to the CS program in CMU (check edulix). So I am almost sure that getting at CMU INI is way easier than getting into CMU CS. CMU is highly regarded in CS. The CMU INI and information systems programs are for people who want to go to industry. If you want to consider an academic/research career in the future then I hope you didn't choose CMU INI but for instance, Columbia MS in CS program.
  6. The faculties at top tier universities are mostly there because of their outstanding research record or achievements. You can do that in theory in every place. I chose an even lower ranked school than Maryland (where I resigned from my admittance). The current president of Stanford graduated from CS at the school I chose. And after all, if you do well in your PhD, you will surely be considered for Postdoc positions at top tier schools.
  7. I received mine too. BTW very informative and complete package.
  8. Ok, I got mine Even having acceptances still hurts. Good luck to all of you fellows.
  9. Regarding Computer Graphics. There are other excellent professors there. You should check also their graduate courses.
  10. The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is a very good one. Just review their graduate courses and you will find several specialized courses on parallel processing. You will also find a lot of research undergoing in systems. Also take into account that they have the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, the birth place of Mosaic, the first web browser. So they have plenty of facilities to do this kind of research.
  11. Got the official letter in PDF by email
  12. From the Universities you are mentioning I have already heard from University of Maryland College Park, I received the official acceptance via email but when checking their website status page I still see "Pending Decision". Regarding Columbia I was rejected from the PhD program and now I am being considered for MS admission, so I am pretty sure they are still deciding at least on that. No idea about the other programs you are mentioning.
  13. I see your reasons now. The only thing I am a little worried is that they don't formally offer a Computer Vision course. I have been looking through their webpage for the last semester and the following 2 semesters. I might be plain wrong but I just can't find this course on their system. The closest is "Statistical and Neural Pattern Recognition"
  14. I have not been officially given that information from SUNY-SB but I have also heard about the $15K range.
  15. I have been accepted to the PhD program in both institutions. Full financial aid and equivalent stipend for both programs. I am interested in Computer Vision / Computer Graphics / Machine Learning. According to the US News & World Report ranking in Computer Science, UMaryland CP ranks #13 and SUNY Stony Brook ranks #31. For other subjects like Math they rank roughly the same UMCP #21 SUNY-SB #24. I am also aware that SUNY Stony Brook is a little over an hour from New York City and UMCP is just a few minutes from Washington DC. UMCP has a long history while Stony Brook has a little over 50 years, in this regard SB has a remarkable reputation growth rate. Probably this information will be helpful to others as well Please share your thougths with me. Which one would you recommend me from this information and other information that you might have.
  16. I've seen that some people already posted it in the results page, but here it goes anyway: "Thank you for your interest in the computer science graduate programs at Illinois. Our Admissions Committee is still in the process of reviewing applications and will not have decisions until the first week of April. We apologize for this delay and appreciate your patience. Thank you and have a wonderful week!" I guess they meant to say "Thank you and have two wonderful weeks!" in the last part of the email
  17. I think you have been accepted to the Master program since my status says "Rejected but forwarded to M.S. admissions, Pending"
  18. I have received an additional rejection letter from UW Madison with little changes in the wording of the email and a PDF attachment with my address and the same wording as in the email. This is kind of weird, I had already received their previous rejection email. Anyone else got rejection email again? I thought by one moment they would say, hey! we made a mistake sending you the wrong letter because you have really been accepted
  19. Reviewing the acceptances reported from last year in the Results Search: There were acceptances to the PhD CS program on March 14th, another in March 15th and finally another on March 31th. Maybe tomorrow or monday is our lucky day I have not lost hope entirely despite receiving many rejections.
  20. I checked testudo and my application status is still Pending Decision.
  21. I have received a short email of acceptance from the Department today and so other people according to the Results Search.
  22. No, no waiting list. I got rejection today and my application has been forwarded to MS Admissions .
  23. I see someone has recently posted a Rejection in the Results Search. Has anyone else heard any response from SUNY Stony Brook? I was told that they made their final decisions yesterday and emails will be sent either today or tomorrow.
  24. I have not been rejected from PhD yet. I have not received any response or decision. Is this a good or bad?
