  1. I haven't heard from Northwestern either. I had called them a couple of weeks back and they had said that the decision making process will continue till April and that my file was still under review.
  2. Hehe. My bad. Sorry to insult your monkee brethren. Although from your username I would have assumed you're more into the 60's bubblegum pop kinda simians.
  3. That's pretty subjective. In my personal experience I've had both American and International students request me for my finished assignments. Though as a TA I've only once had to report a case of academic dishonesty and unfortunately the students in question were International students. But frankly I believe that more than regional factors, the intrinsic honesty of individuals is too random to be cogently explained either which way.
  4. Bro..I am an intl. student and I do not appreciate you defining my integrity with corny platitudes. Apologize to your professor and start being honest.
  5. I got four rejects and am still waiting on 6 schools. If they don't have the time to send rejection letters, why don't they hire a dozen monkeys and equip them with typewriters.. oh wait that will just replicate the admissions committee.
  6. Thanks for that and congrats on your admit. Appreciate your candidness.
  7. I've got all night. I love long stories with happy endings. Pray, do tell.
  8. heehaw..good one. I despise weekends now.
  9. Didn't hear from any colleges. Only in this scenario would not hearing anything be news .
  10. Very well written indeed. Big hug!

Congratulations on your respective admits. I just finished my Master's from UF and miss Gainesville already. On campus housing is good in quality although from what I saw of the graduate student housing, slightly dead in terms of atmosphere. I stayed off campus and never really faced any problems. G'ville in general is not expensive, very friendly, and with a good mix of students. The RTS bus system is very reliable, convenient and, most importantly, free for students. That being said, it is most definitely a small town. So as long as you don't go with unrealistic expectations you won't be disappointed.
  12. Here goes nothing: They, apply equal success I, messieurs take my money They, Dear John..
  13. Hehe..I know, right? I have been a heavy smoker for so long. But somehow it didn't feel right anymore. It's been two odd months yet. But long enough that I sneer down at smokers from my newly acquired moral high ground . Thanks for the kudos! That's the comforting part of having the gradcafe forum. I was initially under the impression that I was one of the few such self doubting individuals and that PhD applicants are all confident know it alls with 10+ publications and a bevy of professors salivating at the very thought of such kickass applications heading their way. Specially when I looked at the profiles of graduate students at top schools, it made me question myself way too much. I can't really talk about this situation with my family and this forum definitely helps.
  14. I was confident in general and happy about the life choices I had made. I had graduated with top grades in my Master's program and was enthusiastic about a PhD. Now I increasingly feel paranoid and indecisive. I sleep at odd hours. Wake up dreading another day awaiting updates from universities. It's hard seeing your aspirations die a slow and painful death. On a positive note, I quit smoking during this period. So I guess it's not all bad.
  15. Congrats on the admit. I got all my results till now either on Mon or Friday. But the fact that they're all rejects might be the reason for that. I guess colleges like taking out the trash at the start or end of the week. In anycase, good to hear of some people winning the application battle. Hope funding works out for you as well.
  16. Academics? As in plural? So I am not the only one? Thanks for bursting my bubble
  17. Dear Jakrabite, It is with extreme deference to your prodigious talents that we choose not to accept you for our graduate program. Your analytical skills intimidate us, your persistence inspires us and, since we have yet to hear any evidence to the contrary, we assume you're freakishly well hung. In short, We're not worthy! We're not worthy! We're scum! We suck! Thanks and Regards, Dr. F. Artface Head Adcom
  18. Alright. Thanks for the update. Appreciate it .
  19. Did anybody hear from this program yet? I called them a couple of weeks back and they said that results will be out only after March 15th. Somebody posted an admit today though.
  20. Haha. Thank you. I am an international student so initially I thought my getting offended by 'Cheers!' was misplaced anger. But I guess 75 bucks no longer buys you politeness or a reasonable imitation thereof. These posted rejection letters are amazingly funny though. I hate it when The Man tries to talk like us young folk.
  21. I faced a similar problem with UIUC. They didn't receive my scores. But the ETS people were pretty helpful and sent them again at no cost. I don't see how they could charge you for their mistake. My last reject ended with "Cheers!". Don't know about other people but I found that slightly insensitive.
  22. I'm increasingly moving from 'what doesnt kill you only makes you stronger' to 'what doesnt kill you makes you weaker and kills you later on'. So....yeah....definitely bitter.
  23. 0- jakrabite 1- 1st time for PhD. Finished Master's in Fall'08. 2- 10 (I have a round number fetish...no seriously) 3- 4 rejects as yet 4- Applied for interdisciplinary stream. No published papers. Perhaps not enough experience to demonstrate tangible talent for research. 5- Yes I will apply again. Though it might be two years before the next app. 6- Might take gre subject test since my supposedly excellent gre general test scores have not brought me much luck. Try to finagle a research gig, though thats easier said than done in my country. 7- Haven't thought about Plan B. Will probably see after a couple of more rejects.
  24. 4 rejects in four weeks. A reject a week keeps the ambitions at bay.
  25. If the option is between giving up on academia and checking with the admissions committee, then I take my earlier comment back. Go ahead and initiate a conversation. In that case you have nothing to lose. Best of luck and hope everything works out for you.
