Do ETA's get rejected? The last time I saw the spreadsheet it looked like only Full grants were rejected. Then again, it could be that no ETA's that have been rejected have been using the spreadsheet.
-
I still can't see the spreadsheet.

Do we need a google account now? It says Welcome to Google when I bring it up.

I'm curious about something else. I know that Fulbright recommends 1.5 to 2 times the number of candidates after the first selection. Some of those are selected, some of those are alternates and some of those are rejected, correct? Do some countries name all the 1.5 to 2 times extra as alternates? For example, if a county has 15 grants and 30 people are recommended, 15 are selected. Are the other 15 all alternates?
-
I'm still trying to find out who the Indonesia ETA is that went from alternate to accepted. Are you on the board?
-
Hi roland, I received an alternate letter on Monday. It looks like everyone else also received letters last week.
-
I know. I mean, are they wanting me to go back to school and get another degree to add to my application or obtain more tutoring experience or what?
-
I was looking at a thread from two years ago. Some people had posted that they found out what number they were on the alternate list. How is this possible?
-
Does anyone else have any insights on what makes someone selected versus an alternate? I know I probably shouldn't keep posting about this, but I really, really want to be off of the alternate list. If that doesn't happen, I'm wondering what I can do to improve my chances for the next application period. Is it more about the essays than anything else? Is getting off the alternate list very hard? Do they really have money become available later on?
-
Is anyone else an alternate and already considering reapplying?
-
I'm in similar predicament too. I am an alternate and I don't have a back-up plan yet either. Fulbright was my plan, especially since I haven't been able to find a job of any kind in a few years and I wanted to teach English abroad.
-
I keep watching this thread hoping someone can answer my questions about being an alternate that I already posted here a few pages ago, but, of course, I have some more. Did anyone on here apply last year? If so, what made you want to try again? Do you think it is worth it to re-apply and have to wait another whole year? Did you rewrite your essays entirely?
-
I went back and checked. I sent the email two weeks ago and never received a response.

I emailed him last week (or maybe it was the week before that; I've forgotten what day it was. Sorry!) about something and never heard anything back.

Is it possible to find out what number you are on an alternate list? Does anyone know if they would consider telling you if you really, really need to figure out how to plan your summer NOW because a summer opportunity has made itself available to you? I wrote something else about this in another post somewhere; I think it might have been page 59 or 60.
-
Bluedevil, If you don't want your ETA, I'll take it. LOL. Skyfire, I think it was you that I responded to somewhere on another page of this thread. It might be on page 59 or 60. Do you have any more advice for me? Also, does anyone know who wrote that they were alternate turned accepted as ETA for Indonesia in the spreadsheet? It seems like they heard pretty fast. Or, is someone just messing up the spreadsheet again?
-
The problem is this: Now that I know I am an alternate I might want to participate in another opportunity over the summer. If I had been accepted to Fulbright this wouldn't even be an issue. This other opportunity would conflict with the Fulbright orientation. So, I could either wait on Fulbright and decide to not sign up for this other opportunity and hope that a space becomes available, or I could sign up for this opportunity and do it, but what if Fulbright notifies me in June, when I am in the middle of this other program and then I cannot attend the orientation? It isn't a matter of having something to do in the place of Fulbright, but a problem of how to plan the summer. I don't have even have a back-up plan in place right now. I remember reading something about how candidates who are accepted and intend to participate in Fulbright have to keep the orientation period free from other obligations, but I don't know if that applies to alternates who have no idea if they are going to eventually be accepted. Anyone have any idea? Does anyone know someone who had this problem last year, and if so, what did they do?
-
How long would you all wait to hear if you have been removed from the alternate list? I mean, if someone has to make plans to do something else, how long should they wait on whether or not they will receive a grant? What would you all do about that? I'm just curious...
-
I don't understand. How come you did not hear by email?
-
Bluedevil, Sad to say that I received an "alternate" letter in the mail yesterday. I see that you and I live in the same state, so I don't know why you didn't receive anything yesterday. Can anyone tell me how often an alternate receives the grant? Why are people named alternates anyway? I mean, what specifically makes someone an alternate? What is it that the receipients have that the alternates don't have?

Here is the spreadsheet from last year again: https://spreadsheets0.google.com/ccc?key=taWW8xiKve1Tm6Ow6bHdhYA#gid=0 It looks like last year, Japan was the first East Asia & Pacific country to notify people, followed by Vietnam, which very strangely, notified some people on March 25th and some on March 30th. All of those notified were accepted. I wonder why there was a several day difference in notifying people when it was done via email.

Yes, that's him. What are you planning on doing outside of the teaching hours?
-
Yes, I did. I'm listed under S on the spreadsheet. I hope notifications will go out soon. I was told about a month ago by the program manager that in past years notifications went out mid to late April. Have you tried emailing the program manager? I'd email and ask again, but I've already done it before.

Hi roland4102, I applied to the Indonesia ETA program. Did you enter your information into the spreadsheet?
