Staying Healthy Through the Stress
Eternal Optimist replied to despejado's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
First of all, I have an important question. My sister and I were wondering how a bagel tastes. We have never tasted one and would like to know if it tastes sweet or doesn't or if it depends on the flavour. I tried googling. Didn't find any answer that clarified my doubt. About staying healthy and my weight, I have put on a lot of weight in the past two years. I am an extremely lazy person. But somehow I have been following a a healthy routine for the past month or so. I go to bed around 11 and wake up at 4 or 5 in the morning and go for a jog. I have not started to lose weight or anything but I feel a lot better physically. I am incapable of being on a diet. I love food and no matter what the consequences, I cannot make a compromise in that department. Plus I am back at home (with my parents) after 3 years of staying away. So, enjoying every bit of my parents' cooking. -

Very rough! I am going to get seasick very soon! How are you? I recall reading you are waiting for funding info from Louisville. Am I correct? Have you been accepted or wait listed to other programs? Sorry if sound nosy. Just dunno what else to ask -

Eternal Optimist replied to pure titanium's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Wow! That's amazing! Congratulations! Are you accepting their offer? My interview went on well. So, hopefully, they like me enough to fund me. If they do, I definitely hope to see you in September. -

I checked the website but there is not much information on Scholarship. I just hope my interview with UMaine goes well today. I hope you get funded at Syracuse. And thank you for all the entertaining and supportive posts on the other thread. You and Kamisha make my day sometimes. Phoebe, thanks a lot! All the best! Hopefully, we all get accepted with funding next week and we can have a gradcafe party to celebrate -

I am not sure what the Scholarship would be like. But I have written to them (Oregon State) telling them I would not be able to attend unless I get a tuition scholarship and stipend and even with that I would have to take out a loan to cover the rest of the expenses. I am yet to receive a response about how far into the wait list I am. No, I meant if I don't get any unfunded offer, I will reapply next year. I cannot afford $36, 000 a year, especially given the current exchange rates. -

Haha! I completely understand your fear. I am not on top of the wait list for funding so I am not holding out hope for WVU. Would have loved to attend! Have you heard back from any of your schools yet? -

Same situation here. Just got an an acceptance to another M.A. program this this morning with no GTA offer. Placed on wait list for Scholarship funding. I am beginning to this is going to be the trend this year. So, I have made up my mind to reapply next year. I have to hear back from 5 more schools. -

Best books on literary theory?

I have been told that the Empire writes back is a good book for post postcolonial theory. During my undegrad days, we had Edward Said's Orientalism and Gayathri Spivak's 'Can the Subaltern Speak?'as a part of our syllabus. -
Haha! I am not that smart just too greedy to learn a lot Let's see how that works out! Also, I forgot to mention that Auburn and Alabama expect to notify by mid march. Two more weeks left for us to start freaking out about that. So, you definitely did not dream the whole thing. I just hope we get a funded offer from at least 1 of these places. All these unfunded offers and wait lists is breaking my heart. Which aspect of Victorian Literature and Romanticism do you specialize in? I had wonderful professors for both in my undergrad institution. I enjoyed Victorian poetry the best. Somehow the sonnets or the Romantics or modernists didn't speak to me as much as Tennyson and Rosetti did. Ok, I will stop boring you now and go back to stalk other pages.

Hey there! I have applied to Purdue, Knoxville,Auburn and Alabama as well. My area is early modern literature and late medieval. I don't think I have a shot in Alabama(Strode program accepts only 5 students). I am not holding out hope for Purdue either. I am hopeful about Auburn. I spoke with a professor from UTK's English department. The decision meeting was scheduled for 28th February afternoon. I was told that we will be notified by Monday or Tuesday. Let me know if you make it. All the best!

What books have you read already? Terry Eagleton's introduction to lit theory and Catherine Belsey's Critical Practice are the standard ones. If you could be more specific about which topics in lit theory you want to go deeper into, I could suggest some books. -

Did you guys look at the Hogwarts posting on the result board? I can't stop laughing. Much needed in these stressful times of wait-lists, rejections and unfunded offers.
