  1. I just heard directly from an acquaintance at Duke that the admissions committee won't even meet until next week, so whoever has claimed on here that they've gotten invited to interviews is just trying to toy with us. I hope that is encouraging to you all who were hoping to hear from Duke. I know it is for me!
  2. Thanks, unfortunately, the interview weekend is the same weekend as Baylor's, to which I"m already committed. So, I will be doing the Emory interview via Skype, I think.
  3. Just got a call from the NT chair at Emory. Invited for interview weekend.
  4. Saw on the results page that someone in NT got an interview with Duke. Can anyone confirm/claim that?
  5. Got an e-mail this morning from my POI at Princeton Seminary asking for a Skype interview tomorrow. Not sure if every department is doing that, but just so everyone knows.
  6. This waiting is not fun. Every time my phone rings, my heart leaps. Sheesh.
  7. Can I ask when you were contacted?
  8. I thought so too, but I'm not complaining!
  9. Thanks! Very excited!
  10. Got a letter from Baylor yesterday inviting me to the interview weekend.
  11. For what it's worth, I'm applying this cycle as well with a V 163, Q 156 and AW 6.0. I've been told by everyone I've talked to that those numbers are more than good enough. If mine are good enough, then your scores certainly are as well. Good luck!
  12. Anyone a current NT student at Baylor? If so, would you pm me? I have a few questions about visiting: what questions to be sure to ask, etc....
  13. And I was just told the same thing by my POI at Notre Dame. He said it's better to submit a complete sample that's a bit longer than cut it down.
  14. So, I just today talked with the director of the NT dept. at Emory, and he said to send the whole article. That's just one school, but it's something.
  15. In talking with one of my POI's, she suggested that I introduce myself to the other faculty so that they are at least somewhat familiar with me come time to review applications. That's just one school...
  16. Unfortunately, I'm going to miss colloquium. I'll be in Waco from Thursday to Sunday morning. Gaventa suggested that I make colloquium, but I couldn't make it happen with my schedule.
  17. I'm visiting Baylor in a few weeks, so maybe I'll just ask my POI in person. Seems risky.
  18. Does anyone have any advice about the writing sample? My best work is an article that I published, but it is 30 pages double-spaced, which is obviously longer than most programs suggest. I have other, shorter papers that reflect the quality of my work well too, but this one is by far the best. Is it OK to submit a longer sample that is one's best work, even though it is longer than suggested?
  19. I think you're right about the quantitative score. I've spoken with the director of the programs at Baylor, Emory, and ND, and they all said that my Q (156) was just fine. They are much more concerned with the V and the Writing scores. Both Baylor and ND told me that if I didn't have a 90th percentile in the V (I do, thankfully), that my chances of acceptance are almost none. Nogalski at Baylor told me that they've accepted two people in the last ten years with a V under the 90th, and they were both at the 89th.
  20. Well, I guess I will get it started... Where is everyone applying? I'm applying to Baylor, Duke (PhD and ThD), Notre Dame, Emory, Princeton Sem, and St. Andrews. Focusing on NT (Paul).
  21. I've been wondering the same thing. I contacted all of my various POIs about a month and a half ago. I heard back from all of them but one. I then sent a follow-up e-mail two weeks ago, and I still got nothing.
  22. Well, it's September, and I'm sure many of us are working at applications. So, I thought I'd start this forum to discuss things and encourage one another...
  23. I'm applying this to NT PhD programs this year. I've talked to folks at Notre Dame, Emory, Duke, and Baylor, and all have really heavily emphasized languages. They have all told me that the ability to read most any primary text in the original language(s) is a massive strength for an applicant. This was especially the message at Notre Dame, which emphasizes languages more than any other program on my list. I understand that most PhD NT students don't have Latin, Syriac, etc., but it seems to me that the ability to read in any ancient language will only help you out. For places like Notre Dame and Duke, I get the impression that either Classical Greek or Latin would certainly be a boost. And if your Greek is decent, neither should be much of a problem to pick up if you're motivated.
  24. Wow, yours is a very similar situation. I actually only live 25 minutes from Notre Dame (on a good weather day). My seminary is only in the next city over, and my wife has a great job doing what she feels called to do. So, we wouldn't have to move. Thanks, everyone, for the advice. I appreciate the input immensely!
  25. No, I decided to wait to apply to PhD programs, though now I'm wishing I had.
